Replying to Coming off a broken tibia and fibia

So last year I broken my tib and fib at aplental night skiing. I was going super slow and had a forward twisting fall. I'm a big guy and my leg was demolished. The surgeon wanted to take it and give me a prosthetic. Fast forward 9 months. My wife didn't let them take it and I'm dealing with tons of ankle pain from the pins holding my tibial nail in place. I've got a baby boy on the way and I can't imagine getting hurt again needing to be a father. How do you guys get over the feet of another traumatic injury? I'm not scared of the pain but I'm scared of counting on my wife to do everything. Skiing is my drug. I almost went to hood 3 months after my injury just to slide on snow.
