Semi hollows are nice, but if you aren't too skilled in playing yet are you sure you want to spend upwards of 4 grand on a guitar? You can buy an Epi style 335 for much cheaper to feel it out to see if you like the style and sound first. Semi hollows are not necessarily "hybrids" of acoustic and electric, they serve a pretty specific purpose which is a nice warm tone that excels in clean scenarios and the semi hollowness adds to the overall volume of the guitar which creates that warm tone they are known for.

What do you have for an acoustic now? I would say definitely grab the taylor or martin if you have a lower quality one. IMO you can tell the difference more between a high end acoustic vs a high end electric. The upside in your case is that since you started acoustic first you will probably find fretting an electric way easier.

I've played for about 8 years so i'm actually pretty good, I've just never upgraded at all. I don't even know what model i have i just know i have a shitty beginner seagull, it's pretty bad but i didn't realize this until recently. thus my new interest in the guitar market

imo spending a couple grand for a guitar isn't worth it, especially for your first electric guitar. You would probably be better off getting an Epiphone of a similar model. Also, definitely go to a store to try different guitars, you might find a different style that you really like or decide that you don't like the way the Gibson/Epiphone feels.

Every guitar has its own unique sound so you never really know what you're buying when you order one imo. additionally you might even want to look at a few other body styles as you might like the way they sound better

Marginal at best, unless you really know what to look for and are used to playing $2k+ guitars. I'm not really a guitar center advocate, but in your situation just go there because they always have Gibson and Epi styles in stock that you can just walk in and play. Head over there and just pick up guitars til you find one you like. Pick up a 2 thousand dollar Gibson and play it, then pick up a 500 dollar Epi and see if you honestly can tell any difference (other than weight).

Lower end models have come extremely far even within the last 5 years or so. High ends have stayed the same but it seems there is a higher demand for the low to mid tier level guitars which has forced the quality to be much better.

yeah i was planning on going into a shop for sure before i purchased anything, i prolly shoulda stated that in the op. But yeah i definitely wanna play the thing before i buy it
