Tips/Advice for sending Mt Baker's Road Gap

Short Backstory: Graduating college this December. Moving to and working at Breckenridge instead of a public accounting firm like my parents had hoped. Have wanted to send the road gap for years and hoping I can make it happen this year.

I would like to hear any advice from skiers who have already done the feat successfully. Advice such as how to plan the trip to Baker to hit the weather right, what time of the year to go, and any other information you may judge to be helpful. Feel free to be as creative as you want with the last one.

I am fully aware I have no clue. That is why I made this thread. Could you could fill me in on exactly how much I don't know?

I mean the conditions have to be perfect. There's a reason it hasn't been hit in 4 years, even by pros.

You have to deal with the local crews who are territorial.

You have to have some damn good jump building expertise and put in at least three full days just to build the jump.

You have to realize that coming up short may very well break your back.

And this is off the top of my head. I'm sure a washington local could give you any even bigger list of reasons.

Okay well I already suspected I needed perfect weather. I was asking if anyone knew how to plan a trip to Baker around getting perfect weather while you are there if that is even possible. Also asking what time of year to go to increase your chances of getting perfect weather if its just a guessing game.

And I know I don't know how to build the jump and coming up short is my biggest worry. I'd like to go with someone who has already done it and knows what they're doing. Knows how to build the jump, the take off speed etc...

Like dude you can't just hit the road gap, you've gotta start with something small and even then nobody's hit it in like ages. Seems pretty sketch...

Don't worry bro, my dad knows a weatherman just tell me wht days ur gonna be there and i'll hit him up. He can get a couple feet in before you get there and it'll be sunny for the 3 days required to build the jump.

It won't be my first. I've done a few 10-15ft cliffs, but it will definitely be a step up. I've seen videos and it looks like the landing is so easy if you hit it right that despite its larger size, it won't be much different than landing anything else. The whole "nutting up" thing seems to be a large factor in turning out okay instead of pussy footing up to the thing and coming up short. Correct me if I'm wrong.

You really think it takes 3 days to build the jump? It hardly looks like a jump to me. More like clearing a run-in and packing a little lip. I've never seen it tho so Idk. 3 days seems a little excessive. I watched a video on vimeo where a few people roll up to Mt Baker, jump already built, and hit it that day they got there.

I'm not talking about having the experience to jump it, I'm talking about having the experience to properly build the jump and know that it's going to work. Hitting 10-15 foot cliffs doesn't translate to building a huge jump over a road gap.

Oh yeah I agree. I wouldn't trust any type of jump I put together personally.

Meet someone that knows. It's a real deal hit and Washington has no predictable weather windows. Also, it's not super obvious and changes dramatically with snow fall. The only suck "locals" are the ones that think they're local after riding the banked slalom.

It just rains in washington anyway, just go build a jump in CO.
