I used to be indifferent about the black lives matter movement but the past 24 hours have been absolutely fucked. A innocent man gets killed for pulling out his ID because the officer thinks it's a gun. Another man killed in Louisiana. Then some renegade assholes in Texas kill four innocent dallas police officers.
Some cops fail to understand that black men are white men too. Also the Dallas
cop killers don't deserve to live here. Really hoping things don't get worse.

This shooting happened on July 6th, the guy who put the video on YouTube put yesterday's date on the video. My guess is that she was so calm because she just witnessed how irresponsible that cop was and she didn't dare want to give him any reason to shoot her too.

People react very differently crazy situations. Maybe she was trying to stay calm so she wouldn't get shot. Maybe she didn't want to traumatize her kid even more. Maybe she just isn't a stereotypical, hysterical black lady.
Unless something crazy comes out, by all accounts, Philando was a decent, respectable guy who was murdered in front of his family by a cop.
I hope Mark Hughes gets (at the very, very, very least) an apology from the Dallas Police. Immediately turns in the gun he was carrying and cooperates with the police. Instead of getting a thank you, they plaster his picture all over the news and call him a suspect. Turns himself in and continues to cooperate and they confiscate his gun and his clothes.
Outside of being an actual cop in uniform, I'm not sure he could have been any more cooperative and he's still treated like one of the shooters.

The knee-jerk reactions in America have the potential to be as dangerous as the events that spurred them. People instantly lose all rationality and work off their emotions, mostly fear in these cases, and that has the potential to be so damaging to both themselves and everyone around them.
So speaking out against police brutality is now equivalent to public lynchings and what else the KKK does? How fucking hard did your one brain cell work to come up with that comparison?
Separate the group from the individual. If you look at their website you can clearly see what they believe in. Killing police officers is not on the list of agendas. Also the protest in dallas were pretty peaceful. So much in fact that protesters and police were taking photos together.
Want to know why black lives matter arose? Because black unarmed men are more likely to be shot by police officers than their white counterpart. UNARMED. They are seven times more likely to be shot than their white peer.
And before anyone starts bullshitting on about all lives matter. If you had a fire in a street and you called the fire brigade. The brigade wouldn't start putting water on all houses because all houses matter. You would water out the house with the fire burning. Same with black lives matter. When you are seven times more likely to be shot by a police officer than your white counterpart, there is a failure in the system. Whether it is the way society views black men, police training or whatever it is. Something needs to happen. And you're being willfully ignorant if you think otherwise.
It's not helping at all that people are trying to makes this a cop vs black war. BLM nor the black race in general can not be responsible for the actions of one man, and the same goes for the police.
I watched the whole thing go down live last night...basically from the beginning. There were gunshots and then Fox showed multiple officers face down on the asphalt. Watched it straight til 2 am. How fucked up. I have a feeling were gonna see more as well
A significantly higher number of white people compared to black people were killed last year yet i didnt see shit about a whte person being killed by the cops. When questioned why they supported the police officers' actions, the answer was a resounding "THE SOUTH WILL RISE AGAIN" followed by gunshots and setting off fireworks

No prior convictions, worked at an elementary school and was loved by nearly everyone, nothing more than a bag of weed in the car, a GF and kid in the car. It's pretty unlikely he was going for his gun.

Because why would he? Everything I listed is very relevant. Normal law abiding people which everything we know about him would suggest he is, don't just shoot cops for shits and giggles, especially when there is a kid in the car.

If I get pulled over, I'm not worried I'm going to get shot. I'm not worried the cop assumes I've committed a crime, stole the car I'm driving, am part of a gang or am in the wrong part of the city. #BLM is a thing, because black people are.

Lif you commit a crime you should be ready for the repercussions, if you're resisting and clearly trying to fight the officers effort to detain you and putting the officers life at risk than yes by all means you shoukd get shot

So a guy with a long criminal record, gets the cops called on him for threating people with a gun, doesnt comply with police, gets tazed, wrestled to the ground, and continues to reach for his gun, then gets shot and somehow it's the cops fault.

This one sounds like a rookie cop already on pins and needles reacted nervously and an innocent man died because of his lack of composure.
BLM is not an opposing stance towards white lives or all lives. They are trying to get us all to realize that black lives matter too. And given the blatant murders of black people at the hands of white police, they are right to demand justice and a call for moral equality and fair treatment. Combine that with the fact that most police officers don't even get indicted with murder charges following these killings, and the outrage justifiably increases.
Are there people within the BLM movement who are breaking the law and acting with the same bullshit disregard for innocent life as some policemen are doing? Yes there are and they should be dealt with like any other person who commits murder. Same should go for any police officers too.
I just don't understand why some people think that you have to be on one side or the other. Being opposed to killing innocent people should be something we can all agree on. You can be opposed to cops literally getting away with murder and supportive of the police force at the same time. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Likewise, I can be supportive of BLM and opposed to the killing of innocent police officers.
The first guy, Anton Sterling was asking for it. If a cop (or anyone for that matter) has a gun to your face giving you explicit instructions then you should listen, doing anything other than what you have been instructed is going to get you shot, not that hard a concept to grasp apparently only thugs do not understand this. Doesn't bother me one bit when I hear about this.
Next guy, This sounds like an unfortunate circumstance of a rookie officer nervously shooting an innocent man based on in-experience and composure. The cop is at fault here and should face the necessary discipline

Thats a good thing to assume. However, if you are carrying a firearm, not concealed, in your glove box/ center console, you need to be mindful that. Also, the officer needs to be aware of such facts immediately. If its on your hip, its your call as to whether or not to tell him. Furthermore, if you alert that officer of such firearm in your glove compartment and he tells you not to reach for your vehicle's credentials located in that said glove compartment, don't fucking do it.

I'm sorry, but whether or not sterling was "asking for it," I don't think he deserved to die. Are there not deescalation procedures in place to prevent these things from happening? Nobody should end up dead for not following instructions from a police officer. It's not worth a human life. If another human life is at risk, that's a different story. And we don't know all the facts yet, but LEOs seem awfully quick to use deadly force these days in many cases where it looks completely unneccessary.
There is a difference between having to respect an officer and having to completely submit to authority under the guise of respect. When people feel they are being subjected to the latter, it doesn't surprise me when officers are not met with respect in turn. I'm not justifying any actions here, just trying to explain. But whether Alton Sterling was innocent or not, he appeared to me to be assumed guilty until proven innocent. He stood no trial and is now dead. That's not how our justice system is supposed to work. Justice isn't supposed to be served on the streets, that's what our courts are for.

I have a really hard time thinking anyone would say yes.

What some people don't understand is that this happens to more white men than black men and we can't retaliate, we need another MLK to fix this problem. Police brutality is everywhere and is out of control, but it happens to both races. The media chooses to show more black men dying because they will get more attention, I haven't seen a cop shoot a white man in the news in a long time, but it happens all the time. We need to change peacefully.

That isn't how the justice system is supposed to work, in a perfect world Anton Sterling would have put his hands above his head instead of reaching in his pocket and he'd be alive. He would have been searched and then booked and then face the court system.
The police attempted to de-escalate the situation with a taser and by physical force. When the officers life was in danger, (they were responding to an armed assault call) they used appropriate force to ensure they lived, that means eliminating the threat, case closed.
Thugs need to realize that the police, or anyone for that matter, are not willing to risk their own lives for someone else's and they shouldn't.

In Anton's case, from behind the Veil justice was not served, HOWEVER, I am alive behind the veil and the person prepared to take my life is no longer able to.
