Okay, weird question. How do you deal with not skiing?

Hey all!

I was referred to here by the folks on reddit telling me that you'd probably give me some better advice.

So here's the situation, recently I've learned that during most of the upcoming ski season here in NZ I'm going to be having exams and loads of other school stuff meaning that I won't be able to get out onto the snow for the majority of the season.

How do you all deal with this awful first world problem of not being able to get out and do what you love? Personally I'm not taking the news so well.

/r/skiing is filled with the most pretentious and ill-informed people you can imagine. There was a picture of a girl standing on the noses of her skis and supporting with her poles (think Tripod) and some dumbass was had a high rated comment saying how impressive that is and another saying that since her skis are crossed she's in major trouble and everyone in the picture is a douche for not helping her.

Summer isn't about "not skiing", learn to love it. Ride bikes, climb, see your friends more, have BBQs, whatever. I was about 28 when I finally figured this out, wish I'd done it sooner.

Watch ski edits, play shredsauce, skate, jump on a trampoline, ride a bike, build a summer set up, draw

Also, think about it this way: at least you have access to skiing and you're not a tourist that skis once a year

Throw a fit.. Make everybody you know mad you are pissed you can't ski.. Develop a drug habit or drinking problem to cope. Yell at children and the elderly...

In the off season, I do a lot of boating and drinking. The two go well together and swimming in the ocean is so much more fun than pools

In between ski days though, I just peep my gear and make sure my skis are sharpened and waxed. Plus watch a lottttttttt of skiing on YouTube and Apple TV

Make the time off work for you, get to the gym, lift some weights, jump on some boxes, and do some core building. It will make you a better skier than skiing. Not as fun, but it will help your progression.

Definitely this. There really isnt any negatives to working out, just do exercises that supplement skiing.

Pick up mountain biking. If you like the outdoors, adrenaline rushes, and want to get in good shape, there's no better summer activity. Trust me when I say it is one of the few things that will almost completely fill the void of not skiing for 6 months.

I work a 9-5 so I only ski about 3 weekends a month anyway. I do a cardio-based crossFit about 3 times a week in the winter unless my legs are really thrashed, in which case it is twice a week. I surf on winter weekends I don't ski so that is how I get my weekend warrior fix in the summer. I also do crossFit a bit more during the week to make sure my legs are ready for the next ski season.

Pretend like the curbs in parking lots are rails, build a summer setup, get a trampoline

Since its winter for you build a pvc rail and a drop in out of snow and practice hitting that

I know, I'm in Aus and I'm in uni atm. I'm deliberately sacrificing some ski days this winter to excel in my studies so I understand OP's feels. But same thing: since I can't always drive up to Perisher I still do skateboarding, trampolining, and such while at home whenever I get a spare hour.

Longboard, chill with friends you barely see because you ski all the time, trampoline, have tryed mountain biking pretty fun, watch ski vids, build a backyard setup, watch Warren miller, summer ski camp if possible, GET A JOB
