And getting certified for the work you have to do is pretty easy A lot of it just requires you doing certain things such as mounting bindings but being certified to adjust bindings is easy it's a simple online test and either you'll know what to do already or they'll train you so it's all good I would just worry about finding a ski related job especially with the shit whole of a winter the east coast has had and if your on the west coast it will not matter

I work at a small mountain being a liftie, shaper and also selling skipasses. I really enjoy it because I get to be out most of the day and meeting a lot of people.
The downside is that there's a lot of backtalking among almost everyone who works there, and poor management.

any job is a ski job if you're wearing skis at work.

I'm a ski instructor a smaller mountain and I love it. I get a free pass and if you are not doing it for pay (like me) then its fun. I get quite a bit of time to ski because where I work, one person rarely gets two lessons in a day.

Park crew is deffinetly the best job, you can choose what you are going to be hitting later and fix it up nice, plus you get mad respect

There is a hedge fund based in Vail. I'm sure those guys have the best job at the mountain. Make bank in a ski town and shred all the time.

If you want to get into legit guiding become patroller.
Every professional guide out there has a significant background in medical. From there develop avi skills and rescue skills.

Ski tech 100%. Tune your own stuff with the best equipment, Proforms, Discounts, and other perks. Some resorts even give you a season pass. It's great.

A lot of the time you have to do your time at the bottom of the workers ladder. It's a good foot in the door and you hold no responsibility. As you meet people you can usually find a better job. I taught 3-6 year olds at keystone for two seasons, and through meeting the right people, I now work at a boot shop a couple hundred feet from the chair lift.
But as said before, working in a shop is super fun and the perks are fantastic. If you can get in that scene, do it!

I would not want to instruct, I would rather ski tech, they usually work at night, or wait tables, which is also usually at night. That way you will be able to ski everyday just fine. If you are an instructor, at least where I taught, you will be teaching 5 days a week and skiing for yourself 2 days. You will get time to ski when you are not teaching but then you will also not make any money. I taught part-time, the holiday periods and some weekends, just to get a pass. I worked nights to make real money. Most of the time they would just let the part-timers go so we could ski. They usually gave the lessons to the full-time guys. I would try to work nights, where you make real money and can ski all day, instead of working as an instructor. Only be an instructor if you really love teaching, otherwise you may be bummed by how little skiing for yourself you actually do.

As far as teaching kids Squaw had a children's world program which took care of most of them, so I can only remember one situation where I taught a group of 5 year-olds. Don't expect to teach mostly advanced people your first year in though, that tends to go to the guys who have been there for a while and are level III. Expect to teach groups of beginners and intermediates most of the time your first couple of years. Every once in a while I would get a more advanced skier, which was cool, but that was the exception rather than the rule.

Keep in mind the these were my experiences when I worked at Squaw. Things might be different there now and they would be different at different resorts. It depends where you teach.

If you want a job though. Wait tables at night and be a part time (1 or 2day a week, whatever the minimum is) lifty. More money and free pass.

bumping chairs depends on the lift/crew but its fun. definitely try and make some friends cuz you're gonna wanna bump chairs on the upper mtn, especially ones that service the goods. you get much better skiers, everyone is stoked, and you get to rip some lines on break/when you switch out. bumping jupe chair last year for a few days at PCMR was the most fun ive ever had at a job no doubt.


hard to beat things on-mountain, though. I work in lodging and still get free skiing 7 days a week + buddy passes and a plethora of retail/gear discounts.

Worked lifts for 3 years on hood loved it always outside and getting a few laps a day, but now I have switched over to working maintenance during the night, I fix things as they break through the night but usually get a little down time to surf ns and of course I can ski 7 days a week if I want to. I wouldn't recommend working a day shift at a resort unless you only like having free ride time on your weekends, find a swing shift or graveyard its clutch. I should of said fuck being a lifty 3 years ago lol.

theres something called ski buddies at sunshine valley i think. Or is it lake louise. idea but its in alberta. Idk where u live aha but all you do is ski with people and show people around just ski around.

Currently working as a ski tech and it's pretty sick. Just working on skis all day. Although if you want to get a job in the backcountry get Avalanche 1 and 2 certified for starters and just keep skiing in the mountains. There are classes to become a mountain guide as well

If you have a medical background a patroller would be an awesome job. The pay isn't great though.
