I would look into "edge-wedgies" and see if your hill allows them. My parents taught me how to ski with those and it worked like a fucking charm. They pretty much fasten your tips together so that you have to pizza if you don't want your boots to knock together. I started skiing a few weeks after learning to walk and I never needed a leash or anything of that nature in order to ski by myself, so I'm sure you could slap them on to a five year old they'd do great. Hope that helps!


Also, before taking out on a hill with any slope, try to convey the "pizza and french fries" idea while on a flat slope, see if that helps.

Do you have PSIA certifications too? Just wondering. When I took my certification class they covered a lot of that, although it was a pretty long time ago.

yeah my hill condones "edgie wedgies" and i have used them, though they still don't work for every kid. I also start at the extreme basics with all the flatland stuff, i guess some kids are just that uncoordinated.

And yes the training I went through involved PSIA certification as well

I'm a ski instructor and I only teach kiddos. About half have never skied before. Think of it as sharing your passion with a little kid hoping one day they'll love it as much as you do. Get them stoked and they'll have a great time even if they aren't getting it!

this is my full time job for now. ( I'm 24 whatever)


but yeah, little kids are usually stoked to just get out there and be on the snow and if you can connect with them and show their parents tips are also usually involved so remember to always be alert and encouraging and have a plan as to what you're going to say at the end of the lesson. if you're releasing them to a parent or guardian remember to make eye contract and focus on the good times and safety aspects.

I always had such a crush on my lady ski instructors. They definitely got me stoked on it lol.
