I have only bought one thing from Saga back in 2010. Honestly I still wear it. I do a lot of shit in it and it has held up. The one and only downfall to my saga coat is the paint I got on it while painting late one night. The only reason why I was painting in my saga coat was because it was warm.
Now the only reason I don't wear my Saga coat 100% of the time is because the colors are very bright (one of the reasons I bought it) and I don't want to be seen eating shit while trying new tricks in the park. But really my Saga coat is one of my favorite clothing items I have.
I am not fortunate enough to have a bunch of skiing brand clothing and Saga is the one brand I bought into so I hold that close, especially since I bought it on a Wendy's paycheck.
Ok so Saga is mainstream and maybe a few boarders rock it, but Saga fully supports park skiing, so I fully support Saga.
Mr.noodleI still like it but I think most people think it became too mainstream
BenWhitI just fundamentally do not understand why anyone would look down on a brand that is widely accepted. So, an eleven year-old kid has a Saga jacket and pants. Do you know what his parents did? They put their dollar into a brand whose 100% vested in the ski industry. Saga is not owned by Rubbermaid. They don't have board members that sit on the board of energy conglomerates, consumer goods distributors, or massive holdings company. They are rider owned, athlete supported, and industry funded. Every dollar that goes to Saga, or any ski brand for that matter, is a dollar that is reinvested to research better materials, aesthetically pleasing designs, and functional features. "Maintstream" within the minute populous that is park-skiing is not mainstream. When Tommy Blowhard from NYC is walking down the street in a Saga hoodie, though his feet have never slid down snow in his life, then Saga will be "mainstream" and you will have a legitimate gripe. So long as the dollars spent at Saga are retained in the ski industry, you can all keep your bitching to yourselves.
As I have said, I have nothing wrong with saga, I personally like the brand, and again I have some saga products. I just thought that it was a reason why some people don't like saga

I dont think the OG logo is bad....but I like this one more
This is the best and least used logo , I'd like to see more of it .
Also they are very park/urban/snowboarding style orientated, which is fine and all but would be nice to see a more tech/ freeride offering with pow skirt and wrist gaitors, like armadas upper end gore Tex shells .

the monarch line has all of that minus the wrist gaiters and gore tex. Pretty high-tech line for the price point.

Yeah it's just not all the way there for a freeride/ big mountain type of jacket , but does saga promote that type of skier ? I guess so with durstchi and Miller , I just hate having no wrist gaitors in pow and really cold temps , it creates a void / cold spot for pow and cold air to freeze my wrists . To each his own I guess.
Theres a small window between "LOL another clothing company hahahahahahah" and "omg you guys are so mainstream.
Pretty much by the time the production is dialed in its already uncool for half the park kids. You need people to have heard of it but not know where to buy it. Thats how to be cool at skiing.
I only ski park with 2x4s duck taped to my feet. skis and bindings are for pussy ass try hards. Only bitches need edges, sidecut, and flex.
Ill sit on the drop in telling everyone how much their new pair of skis blows and how fucking lame they are.
It used to be the bad cocky 12 year olds in full saga suits but I think it's changed. It's the moms and dads that I'll see wearing it. Or the kids at school that don't ski or board. Or just random people on random videos on Facebook that will be wearing something every once in a while.
It's not one of those brands anymore... One of those brands that could instantly tell you that someone knows what they are doing and will make it stylish af. And just looking at that one kid out of the hundreds of other people there and know that he gets the ski scene.
Also being able to wear something that looks sick that other people don't know too much about shows that you are knowledgeable and deep in the scene that you know a sick not-very-well-known brand.
I think that this same thing is happening to Tall T. They were a small brand that seemingly had all of the most stylish riders riding their gear at one point or another. I remember seeing some big time people like Vincent and Henrik wearing their stuff even though they had and still have other clothing sponsors.
But does tall t sponsor either one of those gods? I doubt it was more than giving them a shirt or sweatshirt upon their request. But how did tall t get those two to wear their stuff? They were that much of a seriously core brand. And look at them now.
They still sponsor the sickest set of amateurs that slay like crazy! Quinn wolferman. Keegan killbride. Sam Zahner. Etc. These kids not only put out edits with some of the most technical tricks, but also some of the most stylish and creative.
I don't know if they formally sponsor anyone or if they just give some stuff to those next level Steeze machines that ask for some stuff but either way, they are somehow represented by seemingly everyone with wicked style and tricks.
But I'm starting to see more and more of the saga styled kids wearing that stuff. Kids who can't hit a rail without approaching it inbetween their legs and can't spin with a grab. Kids who couldn't name one of the many up and coming amateurs that rep tall t. Kids with the new saga anomie pants, b&e/wallisch full tilts, line skis, etc. Kids who could go on about the new level 1 movie but couldn't name one made by any other production company. Kids who love their front 2s! These kids are starting to wear a lot of tall t stuff already even though tall t just became a company like yesterday.
Tall t is still the shit! Their marketing and skier representation game is off the hook! But give it a few more years and the traditional why hate saga post will be the why hate tall t post. It's cause these sick core brands are getting discovered by kids who make skiing seem like a stupid fad and fashion show.
I like Saga, I have the mutiny pants and jacket and a hoodie from a few years ago. From my experience its well made and warm. I don't get the "too mainstream" thing because I only have one other friend who wears it and he's a way better skier than me. But that's just my opinion.

How many coffees did you drink to write this speech?
A logo is meant to catch the viewers eye right off the bat. If you see the saga logo you think "oh hey, saga". If you look at the lower one you see... Nothing. You literally have to read it to understand what it is. And that is awful marketing.
PachankzYeah it's just not all the way there for a freeride/ big mountain type of jacket , but does saga promote that type of skier ? Has anyone ever made a jacket with removable, maybe zip on/ off wrist gaitors ? Some people don't seem to like them . I wonder sagas reason behind NEVER putting them on anything.

I have B&E boots and line skis and wear saga does that make me a gaper?
c-walk69I actually like saga for the most part, but my only gripe is they value fashion over practicality. I bought an anomie a couple years ago, since it was described as a non-insulated 20k/20k shell. I thought it would be perfect to keep in the pack for touring and layering for resort days.. However, the thing was so covered with useless pockets, zippers, and flaps; that it weighed 3X what it should have and was barely able to pack down into my pack by itself.. Also, even with all the shitty pockets, they didn't bother to include hand warmer ones.. Very disappointed.
I've got to say that all of the pockets on those jackets are a big reason that I love mine. Its super useful. That being said, I agree on the touring part, I wear my rain coat as a shell touring because the saga one is super bulky.
brotoThis for real. I can get pretty waterproof, baggy fitting, brand new pants for less than $100 from saga if you play the sales right. That's pretty impressive. And they're just standard black pants.
Not to mention all the giveaways and contests they do, all the media they sponsor/produce, and all the am skiers they support...
Yeah saga is a good company, whether you like their clothing or not.
this. i got the fatigue pants and jacket on sale for stupid cheap. gray jacket with dark red pants, clean look for real cheap, and the tech specs compete with all the other outerwear companies. hard to pass up
Back in '08-'09 When I saw a kid rocking saga I knew that person threw down and that they absolutely shredded the park. I actually didn't buy saga for a long time because I didn't think I was good enough of a park skier to rep a brand like them, now everyone rocks saga, the sense of elitism associated with Saga is gone for me, still like the brand and how they support and promote freeskiing though
adamwolynI'm starting to see more and more of the saga styled kids wearing that stuff. Kids who can't hit a rail without approaching it inbetween their legs and can't spin with a grab. so you hate saga and the kids who wear saga because they are beginners? tell me one person who hit their first rail lip-on or threw their first 360 by jumping off a 30 footer while holding a beautiful tweaked blunt grab. you sound like an asshole. everyone starts somewhere, and if saga is the gateway drug that gets kids stoked on freeskiing, who gives a shit if they are wearing some "underground" company or not. some of those kids are going to be the next tom, the next torin, the next vinny, etc. everyone starts somewhere. how the hell are people supposed to know every underground up-and-comer or every small crew's ski movie when they first start skiing? shit, learning the jargon of trick and grab names is overwhelming enough when you're new to the culture. and what's wrong with wanting to wear things you like? I don't understand this mentality of "you can't wear something you think is cool unless you're good." at least they are trying to learn and are interested in the culture of our sport. I get not liking saga because of their designs or the fit (the skittled-out stuff and the giant logos feel a bit immature at times, and I think that a lot of NSers grow out of that style as they start to mature a bit), but this shit really aggravates me.
after watching some of the TAFT videos or saga ski camps and shit, it's easy to see a lot of these young kids are stoked as fuck and having a great time skiing with guys like Andy or Ian or Tim or LJ while dressed head-to-boot in their neon triple stack gear. that's fucking great if you ask me.
I think they are a pretty great company in terms of what they do for skiers and the sport (it seems like they are one of the few big ski brands to have stayed relatively true to skiing) and I don't care if you do or don't like saga due to their actual clothing (I personally really only like their pants now- most of their stuff is a little too loud for my liking now), but to hate on them because they are getting young kids interested and stoked on our sport and culture is complete asinine bullshit.

You just need to put the velcro synch strap around your thumb. It's way better than wrist gaters.

- skill should not, does not, and never will dictate the clothes you wear.
- well-known brands are what draw new-comers into the sport
- I don't see how acknowledging random amateur skiers that I couldn't pick out of a line-up makes me any more or any less of a freeskier.
- I don't see how being able to name every production company makes me any more and any less of a freeskier. Again, Level 1 has brand-name recognition. It ends up on iTunes. They film with the biggest names in the sport.
Your perspective is so convoluted by how rad and core you are. you better be wearing Daleboots and skiing white-dot skis, or else you really aren't a freeskier.
Not just Saga, but in general I don't really like to be a walking advertisement. I don't really wear giant logos on any of my clothes, skiing or streetwear. If they made pants or a jacket or something that didn't have too large of a logo and fit nice on me, I would totally buy/wear it.
You guys are hilarious.
In all my years of being on this site, I've never seen such a love/hate relationship with something like Saga.
Saga is pretty good stuff in my opinion.
It's pretty good quality, and every year they just seem to be going up in quality of fabrics and taping.
I've been buying their outerwear for the past 4 seasons now (I like new jackets every season), as well as layers, shirts, and soft shells.
From the first year Fatigue (which is my work coat, and holds up like a boss).
To their Monarchs (which just keep getting better and better. Also bought my dad the Wiley/4FRNT one this season, and he loves it).
And finally have an Anomie this year, it's big, and it's bright pink. Gotta love it.
I'll admit though, some of their graphics are too much. Mostly the triple stack stuff. Big logos aren't my thing (although I have multiple Academic logo tees).
But I don't see why there is so much hate.
They have a bomb ass team, well priced gear that can hold its own, and like said, rider owned, and rider operated.
This "it ain't Core" shit is stupid. Brands grow and evolve, it's how you stay in the game.
I hope none of you "core" lovers are on skis like Line.
Grow up guys, it's just skiing.
I'd hate to MORE people getting bad reps, especially the park scene.
Also, bring back the Script logo, that was my favourite.
