How difficult do you think ski tricks are compared to skateboarding tricks?

It took me months to learn how to do an ollie and I practiced every day. But I managed to land my first 360 on skis first try and got them down comfortably after a few days, then at the end of last season started doing them off medium sized park jumps and even got the 540 down in the last few days, as well as 450s when at the start I'd literally never hit anything harder than a tube and never slid right to the end. So from my perspective skateboarding tricks are much harder than ski tricks.

Feel free to disagree but I think an ollie is technically a very complicated trick with many more things going on that a simple 360 in the air on skis. What tricks do you think are equivalent difficulty wise between skiing and skateboarding?

IMO skating is one of the hardest "sports"
Srs there is so much complexity involved in the sport and a nearly infinite amount of trick combos to pull of on thousands of urban feature.

Skiing isn't easy, but compared to skating it much less technical.....

That's how I see it anyway

My friend (a snowboarder) and I had this conversation awhile back. As as skater turned snowboarder, he always felt that snowsports were so much less complex because you were attached your platform.

That being said, we agreed that skiing was more technical than snowboarding because obviously on one you have one plank and on another you have two planks (absent of one footers/not strapped in tricks in snowboarding).

They're completely different sports, skateboarding trick take less balls more technique, skiing takes more balls less technique. People might disagree but thats how i see it

everything is as technical or big as you want it to be!

pro pogo stick riders definitely go bigger than skateboarders and they get no love

I've always thought that pro level skateboarding is probably the hardest sport humans have ever thought up.

Skateboarding is definitely harder by a long shot. More tech and skill involved, less balls required unless your jumping off roofs like Jaws or launching the mega ramp.

Skiing/snowboarding is more balls, not as much skill or tech, you just have to be ready to wreck yourself when learning new tricks.

I don't agree with the last few posts, skating takes way more balls than skiing.

Takes a lot more effort to send tricks on a skateboard compared to skis. Anyone with a technical understanding of skateboarding knows just how many little things there are that could go wrong with any trick. Every single fall you take hurts more than most skiing falls, no matter what you're skating. Even if you're just doing a kickflip on flatground you can land primo and fuck your shit up mad easy. Falling on snow hurts way less because its softer and some of your momentum will be dispersed via sliding (as opposed to falling on concrete or asphalt where you're either stopped in your tracks or get your skin ripped off).

Skating has both technicality and balls over skiing, but skiing wicked fuckin fast down a mountain is a feeling that cannot be duplicated

I pretty much have respect for all action sports... even snowboarding. They all have something unique and some might be harder than others to a certain degree but they balance out. It's insane what people do in each sport and how they progress it.

i think youre more likely to get hurt skating, and more likely to die skiing. skating is more technical, and done on surfaces like concrete, but you go a lot bigger in skiing, and sometimes ski over exposure and in avy terrain in the bc.


im sure any statistics will not line up with that, as there are so many older, very conservative skiers.

skiing is actually one of the deadliest action sports behind base jumping and a few other smaller ones, I forget where I heard that but it was some kind of statistics that seemed pretty legit.

It took you 3 months practicing every day to learn to Ollie? Even if you practiced for 5 minutes a day that means you spent like 450 minutes learning to ollie It took you like 8 hours to learn to Ollie.

I usually have a harder time learning tricks on a skateboard because the temptation to bail is higher because youre not connected to the equipment

Ski tricks require balls, and you just need to send that shit. Skateboard tricks require exact foot movement and technical skills.

This is a good breakdown. I mean skateboarding on a technical level is absolutely nuts. however, many of their tricks are very low consequence for personal injury.

Skiing is insanity when it comes to the speed and potential physical harm of the sheer size of things.

but yeah, I would probably say skateboard tricks are much harder on a subtle technical level, whereas ski tricks are not as 'hard' yet have much more dire consequences for screwing them up.

I feel like people at the top of both sports push pretty hard. Learning the basics of park skiing is much easier than skating but the top pros in both are pretty fucking mind blowing. Skiing has the ability to go much larger and have way more control in the air while skating is much more intricate.

I would say that at a pro level, they are equally difficult sports.

The best skiers in the world are throwing triples off 80ft jumps. Whereas the best skaters spin about 40ft (i dont know how big a megaramp is) Just saying... But skaters aren't attached to their boards so ur board can jsut dip at any second

for anybody saying that skiing has more consequences (park skiing) just go watch Hall of Meat on Instagram. sure skiing does have bad falls and you can get really fucked. but skate falls are on a another level.

Skateboarding is harder for me...i can kick flip, pop shovit and easy stuff like that but I can't do anything that is actually impressive. Ski tricks for me come much easier.

Nobody likes to talk about it but skiing is pretty damn dangerous. People die skiing every year. Top pros too.

Also, the average person can really fuck themselves up skiing, especially on jumps. You can parlyze yourself pretty quickly if a bad fall goes down. I don't feel like most skaters come close to that

IMO, Ski tricks are easyier because you get more hang time
Also, for me skateboarding tricks need much more unnatural movements to work, and skiing feels more fluid.

Skating at a high level has insane consequences....just the fact they are on concrete. Watch some seriously big rails, etc....those guys take huge falls.

Skiing obvioulsly you can get hurt just by the sheer size of features...but falling on snow or on landings that are steep isn't nearly as bad as flat concrete

Well you're comparing apples to oranges. Do you think top pros are falling on steep park jumps all the time? If they are it usually on triples, which can really fuck you up. But usually they aren't falling there. I would wager that the hardest falls pros take are in the streets, usually to concrete and metal. Maybe the snow helps a little on impact but they are typically going much bigger and faster than skating.
