Have you been to Texas? In reality it has very little to do if good ol boys with guns are walking around. Its the element of supersize and terror. Confusion and disorganization are a terrorists best friend. If in your world you assume all the cowboys will pull out their guns and start blasting away. this happened in May, two guys in body armor armed with assault rifles got taken out by a traffic cop with a pistol, didnt even have time to get shot by a citizen. Pretty sure he was just working as private security for an event at the time

if those same people had planned on attacking Houston they would not have carried it out the same way. They would have planned more around people having self defence against shooters and gone the route of bombs. They were also used in Paris, but they were secondary. THey would be the primary weapon and firearms secondary, if at all. It could easily have resulted in just as many deaths and just as much carnage depending on their choice of targets.

Texas has about 820,000 citizens with permits to carry and their population is just about 29 million. That means about 1 in 30 people may potentially have guns. Unless a terrorist was to attack people in a large public area with lots of people that didn't ban guns (rare) the likelihood of someone actually having a weapon to defend themselves is pretty slim. Texans can preach all they want about their "if onlys". However, when things really get down to it, I doubt they would be in an better of a position than the victims in Paris.

this, exactly this. Concert-goers at the time said they thought the initial start of the attack was a part of the concert until the horrific reality set in, Unless you have been in a situation like this, maybe even a combat one where you recognize there is a threat and something (not a veteran, just speculating so don't get it twisted) needs to be done or else people are gonna die, then I feel like someone would act. But I think the average recreationally-shooting/hunting citizen is just familiar with the "shooting for sport" aspect of guns and not how to eliminate a threat. Could be wrong for sure, But mass amounts of bloodshed will still occur. We're talking about multiple and successful attacks in one night in one of the largest cities in the world. It can happen anywhere with the right amount of planning, as fucked up as it is.

Whats interesting is the amount of people that are almost condemning victims of the attack for not banding together and starting an uprising or something. I guess you could overwhelm a group if they're out-numbered, but I really think it would be hard to even move an inch given the circumstances. It appeared to be insanely chaotic, confusing, and terrifying like you said which would certainly make it difficult for someone to be a hero.

Those marines beat the shit out of that one guy a few months ago, and that one guy who essentially stopped that school shooting in Oregon was a veteran as well, both those are one dudes.

there have been many high priority shootings/assasinations/attacks in Texas since jfk and the guy shooting out of the observatory roof. I dont think that civilians took any of them out (i dont believe Lee harvey was guilty but he was taken out by a civillian (after the fact)(or a fed(but thats a different story)))

youre ideology that everyone in texas has a gun is not accurate. I live in maine which has some pretty loose gun laws (we can conceal carry w/o a permit) and there might be 1 in 30-40 that carries a gun.

I speculate someone wearing black and shooting into a crowd anywhere in Texas would instantly breath their last breathe. Every citizen in Texas is essentially a police officer proudly carrying an unconcealed weapon. So the police never would have to show up. The situation would probably be over before police could arrive. There would probably be some friendly fire but ground terrorism doesn't work in Texas unless it includes explosives or scaled up destruction. It's kind of weird that the whole world is talking about something that only couldn't have happened in Texas or a similarly trigger happy state. Any solutions to terrorism are not black and white and Texas is a crazy place with high homocide rates but at least they don't have to worry about foreigners wielding. Just saying.

Instead of thinking in the way of "We need our guns to stop attacks like this no matter what."

You think:

"We don't have guns and so there aren't thousands of murders on a regular day-to-day basis. This situation is terrible, but arming every citizen just ends up with a ton of dead people in non-war times. We prefer that to the once in a blue moon terrorist attack defense."

I'm not putting judgement here either, just helping explain it. The countries that have strict ban laws choose getting rid of most day-to-day murder, vs. having the citizens ready to defend against possible enemies.

Really, those attacks are scary but the actual number dead are a tiny fraction of the number of people who die in america from gun violence every year.
