I'd do it. It can be hard not to play and simply watch, but it is better than doing nothing.

Well if you really love it and you succeed and make your team really good, then you're going to feel like an OG so i'd do it.

I would just ski instead and then get my fix gambling on march madness.

If you can ski more I'd do that. But if it won't affect your ski time then Id do it for sure.

I was in the same situation a few years ago. I was a competitive gymnast and was training level 10(step below elite). Shit was my life. I spent 28-35 hours in the gym a week and it was basically all I knew.

I fucked up my back and tore my ACL and after I recovered my coaches wouldn't let me train at the same level since I was so far behind at that point. So it was either I coached the other girls or I got the fuck out of there. I left and haven't gone back since and regret it. Maybe I couldn't do gymnastics anymore but I never needed to rid it out of my life like I did. So I'm going to say you should do it.

And if you don't like it after a few weeks or it's too hard then tell your coach, I'm sure he will understand. If you love basketball, I think you should stick around(:

Honestly I don't think the sitting on the sidelines aspect would be too bad. One season I got hurt and couldn't work in the park, but was doing other stuff around the mountain. Mostly scanning tickets with my good arm. Thought it would suck to see people having fun and being stuck there, but it was as close as I could get to shredding myself. It was cool to see everyone stoked and having a good time, talking to people about how the parks were riding, how different trails were, etc.

Your situation is a bit different because it could prevent you from skiing as much as you want, that said it really depends on how much you like those sports. Also what you want to do in life. Maybe you really like basketball and might want to coach in the future? This could be a good building block for that. Maybe it was fun when you could play but fuck that noise lets go skiing!

As far as your coach and friends just do you. Don't be a dick to people, but you can't skip out on the things you love just to please other people if it's not what you want to do. Once in a while helping out is different, but if you're going to have to make a commitment for the season, that you don't want to do, may keep you for skiing, simply because of your coach and the players, I think that's the wrong thing(imo).

Figure some things out and then talk to your coach. Just be straight up with him about things. If you don't want to do it, explain to him what's up, and that you want to ski etc. He probably won't be stoked, but at the same time, I don't think he'd want to do something you didn't like just because you though he wanted you to.

Also he might be offering it simply to keep you in basketball. If Basketball was a major passion of yours, he probably saw that, felt bad that you couldn't play, and wants to give you an in to keep you involved. Instead of you just sitting at home feeling bad, shooting all your basketballs and favorite pair of nikes with a shotgun or something and throwing your tv out the window when a game comes on.

If you have skiing and that's something you want to rock out, go for it.

I'm sorry to hear that. I would do it if it doesn't prevent you from skiing that much and it won't drive you crazy because you can't play.

I used to competitive swim a shit load, almost hit national level when i was 12. Then my grandpa died and i got overwhelmed by my life and dropped swimming for good (i was also a lazy fuck). Ever since that point i regretted quitting and watched my team mates move forward in nationals and continue their training. Recently I got the opportunity to start coaching my local swim team and I must say it is extremely fulfilling, i'm happy that I'm no longer a swimmer because it was my entire life and i like to do a lot of other activities now. I say coaching a team is the best because you aren't as tied down and you are usually not going to every practice because there are other coaches.I get paid so i guess thats more incentive but i'd say do the coaching... It will probably end up making you feel as good as playing did.

I think I decided what I want to do. My coach wants me to be at every practice, every game and stuff like that, but i need to work to save money and I want to ski. I don't think I'm going to do it. I play basketball, but basketball doesn't define who I am. It was a good ride with my team, and I don't have any regrets.
