World Health Organization: Eating Processed Meat is Just as Cancerous as Smoking

The World Health Organization just announced today that processed meat now falls into "Group 1" carcinogens placing it in the same category as smoking tobacco and asbestos exposure.

Red meat lands in "Group 2A" which is the same as inorganic lead exposure.

While I've never thought of a hot dog as being good for anyone, that is some crazy news.

Mod_Daneim eating a hamburger while reading this, I just had a cigarette and I'm about to go watch a microwave for a few minutes.

Honestly, so many people who live straight edge lives end up with cancer, what the fuck is the point to, if you dont like it at least? The risk? lol the risk of cancer is there for everyone, all the time.


although if you continue smoking cigarettes your chance of dying prematurely from lung cancer is quite high.

some things just aren't worth the risks

not eating meat also causes problems, especially being anemic (not having enough iron in your diet)

Well, not automatically/directly. If a vegetarian only ate Doritos and drank Coke (which both are technically vegetarian), then that would for sure lead to a health problem(s). However, if a well balanced & nutritious diet is maintained then it can be completely healthy and beneficial, as many world-class athletes have proven.

Eh, I know its not good for me. You can find "healthier" meats like fish or bird meat, which humans are more developed to process, but red meat just tastes 2 dank.

And nicotine highs feel fantastic.

This thread on reddit is pertinent to this topic. Basically saying this article is misleading. Smoking increases the risk of lung cancer 2500% and bacon increases the risk of colon cancer 18%.

It's not misleading, people are just really dumb when it comes to journals and studies.

The WHO report puts tobacco and hotdogs in the same class because both have a mother fuckton of evidence saying they are cancer causing. The link between the product and cancer is "level 1" strong. It doesn't mention how carcinogenic they are. It doesn't need to really. The point of this was to prove that red meats and processed meat are in FACT carcinogenic... But then again, so is any kind of BBQ. And fuck if I'm gonna give up sear or char.

Right, I wasn't saying the study was misleading. There are a bunch of news articles put out by journalists that don't know how to interpret studies that are being misleading.
