The skiers that are in x games or any other comps really have to do technical tricks to win because if style was a big factor in these comps the Henrik Harlaut would win every single one. So I wanted to hear your opinion on the matter, maybe I am missing something?
skiing has never been freestyle. back in the day it was The anti-freestyle, everything was to a standard and anything that deviated was ridiculed and banished. when the snowboard came out, there was so much resistance! then there were years of people saying you could not ski backward, or in the freestyle terrain park! even today, freestyle big air comps are known to be whack dog, and the styliest shredder never gets the win but absolutely Everyone knowns who threw down the tightest tricks of the day...
I think something we all ignore is that style is completely subjective. To say that Henrik Harlaut would win every contest is blunt (pun intended), because in the same way that Henrik is creative and so athletically aware in the air and on the rails, something undoubtedly rad, Joss Christenson can bring insane finess to a slope course. Both skiers are very different, and Harlaut's style is obviously far more popular, but it's unfair to simply name one person's style better then anthers. The only way to fairly judge something so subjective is to look at cleanliness and uniqueness, which I think is a growing movement in the judging world.

Why would he win if it was judged on style? Why is his style better than others?

I love his style because no one else can really match it in my opinion his super baggy clothing and all the butter that comes off of his skis and the dreds just tie it all together.

To say Henrik would win is absurd. Everyone has style. Henrik has a unique style that is very popular. Some people have more/better style than others. Stomping everything might be a style of a comp skier. People are just sad comps have come to that when thats not what it should be about. It should be about everyones unique style.

we can see that the judges aren't just looking for triples, they're also looking for uniqueness as seen by vinny's dub grabs which set him apart from the others

That was a crowd vote... So Simon threw that trick to please the crowd (everyone watching ESPN, not just us freeskiers) and win... That had nothing to do with judging. Just throwin' that out there

Well... how can you judge "Style"? You can't measure it, you can't put it in comparison w/ other riders - if you look at it like this it totally makes sense to judge technique. It's the only thing you can actually measure.
Now, to get this straight, I totally advocate for more style-based judging in comps and I'm excited about comps like the B&E invitational (which is definitely the way I'd like to see freesking take), but letting a number of different people judge "Style" just can't work out - everyone has their own preferences and their own favourite style.
I'd like to see more (big) comps with a judging by the riders itself, choosing the most stylish/sickest/best overall rider out of their own rows as the winner.

Youre forgetting a big part about style, and it`s that it is completely subjective. I know quite a few people that would argue that harlaut does not have a good of a style as some of the other skiers on the podium. It's much more opinionated than you'd think..

Wow, sorry did not read this before posting.. Said everything I had in mind +1
Comp skiing is about "How many rotations can I put in my trick before I land". Free skiing is all about "Even though I'm doing a simpler trick I can still make it look steezier than a quad cork".
My point is, the mentality behind comp skiing and shredding the park at your hill doing freestyle is so different that honestly competition skiing should be differentiated from freeskiing as it really isn't the same.
To put it this way when I freestyle ski I feel more free as I don't have pressure to one up other skiers who've just landed triples. I can just do whatever the fuck I want to do without the restrictions of having to be better than others. Competition skiing is just constant pressure to land some extremely technical trick and you really don't have the freedom found in true freestyle.
This is just my two cents. In my opinion the comp and freestlye are so drastically different in mentality and actual tricks that are done that they aren't even the same thing.
Its FREEstyle so you are free to do whatever fucking style you want, you can ski with style like goeppers it harlauts or fucking max hill. I'm sick of the "bro kids got no style"

I can't be the only one who isn't really that big of a fan of Harlaut's style anymore, am I? It was cool but now personally I just don't find it as appealing to watch anymore as say Drexler. I'm not hating on Harlaut or anyone who likes him but it just isn't my cup of tea anymore.
