CampeadorSorry, but you can't treat heroin like alcohol and tobacco, it is far worse. I agree on certain points, but what the war on drugs lacks is focus. Have a certain legality for the more benign drugs, and focus the war on those drugs that truly destroy communities, like heroin and methamphetamine. These are drugs that destroy people's souls.
Stemming the amount of heroin flooding in from Mexico, while making life miserable for the cartels, can only be a good thing.
This is point where we have years of evidence showing that the legalization of heroin in countries like the Netherlands has greatly improved the lives of those affected by its addiction and curbed its use by non-addicts. Now, just because something is legal it does not follow that anyone can buy it- it is definitely a highly regulated drug, but nonetheless legal and therefore the drug trafficking and crime associated with it is incredibly small. Legalization does not mean a free-for-all. All of the legal drugs in the Netherlands still are regulated and have laws around them.
I bring this up not out of any desire to say that doing drugs is a good thing or that drug use is to be encouraged. That's not what making it legal is about. It's about how to best solve the problems that drugs cause in society. With the Netherlands in particular, their drug policy has these 4 aims:
1. To prevent recreational drug use and to treat and rehabilitate recreational drug users.
2. To reduce harm to users.
3. To diminish public nuisance by drug users (the disturbance of public order and safety in the neighborhood).
4. To combat the production and trafficking of recreational drugs.
They've had these laws in place since the 90s, and while nothing is perfect, they have great success in achieving these goals.

Guns are illegal in Mexico, and it's extremely hard to legally buy an automatic rifle in the US.

Funny how the media/public thought they knew all the polls before election day, but it was pretty clear that there were many Trump supporters that just didn't care to say they were to avoid all the bull shit.
I really should feel shocked, but I am not. The House and Senate results as the night progressed indicated a stronger base for the GOP than anticipated.
But congratulations America, we have managed to elect a President who has talked about the following:
1. Cutting back on 1st amendment rights
2. Policy plans that will enact trade wars.
3. The policies around use of nuclear weapons and torture
4. Denying climate change
5. Supporting Supreme Court Justices who want to roll back the clock on women's reproductive rights, LGBTQ rights, and other social rights (including legalization of weed).
6. Social policies that are both racially and sexually divisive
7. Economic plans that will increase the deficit*
8. Sexual objectification of women
*You can't simultaneously rebuild infrastructure, lower tax rates, and reduce the deficit no matter how many loopholes one closes. It just isn't possible.
But, I guess it is what the electoral college wanted (popular vote seems to trend Clinton as it stands).
The future should be interesting because one group that voted for Trump will end up being upset. Will it be the anti-DNC voters who wanted to give a big ole fuck you to the DNC but didn't expect the socially and economically regressive policies to pass because they didn't believe the GOP would control the House, Senate, and Supreme Court or will it be the anti-establishment voters who end up seeing that Trump is, despite his rhetoric and as his history indicates, a globalist?
To all you Bernie supporters who voted Trump, I have a question for you all and it is not meant to be a criticism, but a genuinely curious question. Was the chance at a small-stepping stone towards a more progressive future worth ruining by voting Trump to tell the DNC "fuck you"?
To all those who face a potentially difficult future because of policies from a Trump presidency, good luck, stay strong, much of America backs you and go out and vote in mid-term elections if you want change!
I live in country set to elect a very nationalist president in December. Many of these right wing people are my friends and they love their country. But every single one of them has asked me (or said as much on the internet)- "America, what the fuck have you just done??"
There is nationalism, there is pride, and then there is idiocy. I get that people want to "Make America Great Again" but don't do it at the expense of:
- climate science
- environmental protection laws
- the separation of church and state
- the 1st Amendment
- race relations
- LGBT rights
- women's rights
- voter's rights
- common human decency
Hillary is a goon and a scumbag. But she wouldn't have rolled back any of the above the way Trump and the GOP will. There will be an ultra-conservative SCOTUS appointed and laws written that will severely and negatively affect millions of people. If you think America is in a shitty position now (which, factually it isn't), it's now set to get a whole lot worse.

There is nothing wrong with nationalism so long as it does not alienate citizens of that country, which under a Trump administration, is entirely possible if you are : Muslim, Gay, Black, Hispanic, or a woman.

Yeah, I NEVER understood the point of a protest vote. Voting is a real thing with real life consequences. Anyone who wanted Bernie to be the Democratic nominee but voted for Trump in order prove how wrong the DNC was is an absolute moron.
I want to know how much of this is result of all this tension in the country over the past year or two. There has been so much talk about discrimination, racism, white priviledge.. I've never heard the words "misogynyst, racist, sexist, xenophobic, bigots..." as much in my life as I have heard this last year or so. So many people came out of the fucking wood work for this vote. Do you think it's fair to say that this was basically their protest vote saying "I'm fucking sick of this shit?"
1. Restrictive social policies in regards to gender equality, LGBTQ rights, reproductive rights, and religious rights thanks to the GOP controlled House, Senate, and Supreme Court.
2. Trade-related conflicts due to likely protectionist policies.
3. An Us vs. Them mentality as we have seen throughout the election that will continue. Both sides have attempted to dehumanize the other side by calling them racists, bigots, criminals, uneducated, libtards, etc. Trump has not run a campaign that has attempted to unite the country, nor has Hillary.
4. Strained international relations. The majority of international leaders (save Putin and Kim Jong-Un) spoke about the unpredictability of Trump and how it will likely cause some tension as leaders are unsure of how he will act.
5. Economic policies that will likely further polarize the rich and poor.
