Two convicted murderers escape max security prison in NY

"The State Police and other law enforcement agencies were hunting for two fugitive murderers on Sunday morning in the wilderness and rural communities of northern New York, a day after the two men escaped from the maximum-security state prison here.

Duping guards with dummies fashioned out of sweatshirts and using power tools to drill out of their cells, the men made their getaway late Friday or early Saturday, emerging on the other side of the prison’s 30-foot-tall walls, officials said."

This also isn't the first time one of the guys has escaped from Prison as well.

So it depends on execution too then, and you still have to disregard the judicial process I guess. But if you did firing squad that is much cheaper than keeping an inmate in a cell for a month. Maybe if we skipped the whole judicialy process that last months and realized people are killers we wouldn't spend so much money. I mean that dude who shot everyone in Colorado at the movie theater in batman is still on trial. That was like 5 years ago


You can't rush the process though. Imagine if the person was actually innocent and we were too quick to execute them only to find out later someone else was to blame. It's there to protect people and with something like the death penalty you need to be 100% sure before acting.

Ehh I feel like if there is hard evidence (like video) the person should be put down as fast as possible. Bring back firing squads!

Yeah true, maybe that shortens the time between. Even then I think they should still have at least some kind of process to ensure they have the right person. Executing someone who is innocent would be fuckin horrible.

Are there definitive lab tests proving mental illness, or are there tests based upon subjective characteristics and behaviors? One doc's clinically insane is another doc's plain old evil.

If we just start zapping folks based purely on the severity of the crime not takng into account mitigating circumstances, we could be killing a lot of folks who just need a pill a day to be a fit, healthy, upstanding citizen.

I feel like most people who commit first degree murder have some degree of mental illness or instability though. I just don't see how anyone who is "healthy" or "stabile" could possibly carry out a murder.

Well seeing as he killed 12 people and injured about 90 more, he's too fucked to actually be able to recover with "treatment", as well as the fact that he needs to be punished for taking the lives of 12 other people. We don't need any more psychos in the populace than we already have. And the fact that the trial has just started after he "allegedly" committed the crime over 3 years ago is disgusting and proves how bad we as an American populace are at making decisions.

I don't know how they even call that prison high security besides the multitudes of fences. They're lacking a lot of stuff a modern high security prison would. For example, there were fewer surveillance cameras there then most normal prisons have. Almost none along their route, obviously excluding inside the pipe. I get it's an old prison, but they should still be held up to modern standards in technology if they're high security. And how does a prisoner cut through their wall when they get checked every 2 hours. And a guard isn't allowed to shine their flashlight in the cells during sleeping hours. Like wtf?
It's starting to sound like the guards there are a lot more relaxed then they should be.

^ Saw that earlier. Pretty fucked up. I guess the guy had shot at someone's camper and then they called the cops and everything. I don't get how people are that stupid...You escape from prison, stay in the same area of said prison, and then shoot at someone...Like, that's just asking to get caught. They had 5-6 hours if I remember correctly before anyone knew they were missing. They could have easily gotten over the border. Kinda interested in why they didn't do that.

Yeah true. it's just confusing as shit because they were smart enough to escape a max security prison(granted we now know that prison workers helped, but still). If you're smart enough to escape in whatever way, you should have at least some sense to not stay close by or not do anything to get the cops called on you like shooting at people and shit.

I live 15 minutes away from CC. This has been hell for up here for the last month. My father worked at Clinton Correctional for 23 years. Glad He is out and now at the supermax in Malone (even though Sweat will probably end up at Upstate). The CO's are going through a witch hunt now. it's a shame that some of these employees have worked 20+ years and may loose all retirement. The media is making the prison out to be a joke. I grew up knowing CO's all my life and they are some of the strongest mentally peoples I have ever met. The shit they see in that prison would give you nightmares.

Funny that Matt was killed by a Vermont boarder patrol officer and not by any New York officers. David Sweat is saying that they didn't use power tools and only a hacksaw blade to cut through the steel pipe. I wanna know how they managed that.
