Line cloudcore

good thread stinky, ive been wondering the same after watching a couple of their vids and checking out the magnums

Blister has a review of the ski on their site and they mention nothing of durability. They do say that it is a balsa/ flax combo though and going from what Faction did with the same material it seems that it would be weaker. Most issues from the Faction core came from the park ski as it's probably considerably harder to snap a pow ski in pow conditions.

I can't say a whole lot though because the cores could have been constructed differently between the two companies.

I've read that they source cores from the exact same company. obviously the construction of the rest of the ski will differ between companies

I skied on the new Line Mordecai's since January. They've got the new cloud core and I'm obsessed. My 186 Mordecai's felt significantly lighter than my 178 Bacons. The crazy thing is that they were still surprisingly stable.

They also seem really durable to me. I hit a ton of rocks throught the season and my edges and bases are in way better shape than they should be. Top sheets are still good too. Because they are lighter, there's less force when the skis hit each other, and so they don't chip as easily.

I will say without a doubt the Mordecai's were the funnest ski I've ever been on. And I love the cloud core.

In my opinio t new core is a massive improvement. Line were always a little heavy and lifeless in my opinion and the new cores really make the skis so much more fun. Torsionally they are still stif so you can really throw the skis into things and know the edge will hold. The mordecai was my overall fav freeride ski that I tried.

No no they may not be great park skis your better off with te blend if you want a mix of park and all mnt. But hopefully the new core technology will spread to the park skis. A few brand next year are making park skis lighter and this is somthing I a big fan of. If you can make a ski just as stable but lighter who would not want that.

ghosthop is correct, both companies source the unprofiled cores from a swiss manufacturer called bcomp. From this point on the companies own factories do the profiling/layup work.

I don't think that's likely to happen soon, at least with cloud core. As already mentioned in this thread, the original Faction Candide 1.0 (blue) had this construction and they had some serious durability issues. So much so that Faction abandoned using the cores in that ski and never released the balsa core 2.0. From this point on this is speculation, but I'd say that suggests Faction don't think the balsa cores can stand up to the abuses of park skiing.

Line are not doing it yet but there are a few other brands that are rolling out lighter weight park skis next season. Woman's parks skis have been made lighter for a few years now and brands are catching onto the fact that lightweight just works better in the park. The hard part is keeping the durability but with new materials I have found that the skis ride pretty much the same but weigh so much less.

To be honest we all have the boom in the Backcountry market to thank for this. Loads of research has been spent on light weight kit for the BC and now it is beginning to trickle down into alpine products. Exciting times over the next few years from what I have seen so far.
