My main reference was to scientists in academia. That could include engineers in academia as well. Obviously there are scientists working in consulting and other industry that make more money.
Though I would fall into the category of scientist working in consulting and I still don't make as much as someone in the business field.
nah, don't really feel writing much myself right now. but I'll leave you with a couple quotes to read:
"Engineers are not a sub-category of scientists. So often the two terms are used interchangeably, but they are separate, albeit related, disciplines. Scientists explore the natural world and show us how and why it is as it is. Discovery is the essence of science. Engineers innovate solutions to real-world challenges in society. While it is true that engineering without science could be haphazard; without engineering, scientific discovery would be a merely an academic pursuit."
"Science is about understanding the origins, nature, and behavior of the universe and all it contains; engineering is about solving problems by rearranging the stuff of the world to make new things. Conflating these separate objectives leads to uninformed opinions, which in turn can delay or misdirect management, effort, and resources."

I would say many engineer's actively partake in science, namely research done on building materials, how they work together, and how they work with geometry. While they might not be pursuing theories in physics or chemistry, I would say they are the scientists who theorize how they can be used together in society. I would even say many engineer's aspire to see how infrastructure works together on many different scales. They have also made mathematical advancements themselves, furthering the scientist claim.

How do you explain publications like the following? The author is a mechanical engineering professor at Columbia. By the definitions you gave, it looks to me like this is science and not "solutions to real-world challenges in society.
I apologize if I'm coming off like a tool, its just that this type of research I do, and it kind of makes me mad that someone would claim this is not science.
scratchproteenthe shit posted on here is unreal....half these kids are driving a better car at 16 than I probably ever will, same with christmas presents. When I was growing up my parents spent like 150 bucks on christmas gifts....I see some kids get a go-pro, skis, video games etc...
FunkadelicWhat I mostly find humorous about this is business majors are quite often conservative while people in the sciences are quite often liberal. People in the sciences 9 times out of ten work way harder in college than people in business school and end up making less money. But they deserve less money because they worked... harder?QUOTE]
You sound like a butthurt pussy that regrets not going into business. Hindsight is a cruel bitch isn't it

Oh I don't care at all about how much money I make. No money in the world could get me to go into the boring monotony of the business world. I'm in the process of figuring out a career switch to teaching. If I cared about money I'd stay in my current profession.
The whole point of my original post was to point out the irony of business people complaining that they make a lot of money because they worked hard and others don't make as much because they don't work hard. Then my point got misconstrued and turned into an argument over whether or not engineering is science.

So yes it annoys me when a business person complains that no one else works hard when comparatively their college experience was a breeze. If that makes me a butthurt pussy then I'm a butthurt pussy. But I don't envy them in any shape or form.

So an engineer is practicing science. What's wrong with that? Just like scientists practice engineering frequently too.
But like you said "it looks to me like this is science". Exactly. Because it IS science. You wouldn't be saying "it looks to me like this is engineering". Because it's science. Doesn't matter who did the research.
All I am saying is that I go to school in Mississippi for a reason.
#1 greek life in the country
#1 tailgating in the country
The girls could not be hotter
literally one of the most conservative schools in the country
6.5 week winter break so I can still ski 20+ days

Mississippi is a shit state. All you guys have to live for is football and you are remarkably average at that. #1 greek life? Yeah right. #1 tailgating? Yeah right. What school do you go to Miss. State? Ole Miss? Gheeeeyyyy
cobra_commanderI will tell you that the girls at Auburn University are significantly hotter than those in any ski town or at a school remotely close to skiing.
You will be able to ski your whole life. You will not be able to pull unlimited hot tail on a nightly basis for the rest of your life.
Unless you are ugly or fat, then you will never pull tail.
Well alot of people are becoming liberal cuz some shit (Equal Pay, prevalence of religion in politics, etc) are really fucked up and need to be changed right now

so you're saying that governments should be non secular and we should allow the bible to dictate our rules? Yeah that's what ISIS also thinks

you will not be able to ski like you can in your prime for your whole life. If i had to choose between epic skiing/decent girls who can be sometimes pulled for said tail, and no skiing/swamp retards/sluts i can fuck whenever, I'd take skiing everytime.
People who live for sex are the most boring, lame individuals.

Ole Miss... and yea the state of mississippi blows. Oxford is one of the nicest college towns in the country
I'm 18 and can ski the rest of my life... I love to ski and wish I could ski more, but going to school out west would make me want shoot myself.. the people and their political views would literally drive me insane.

College anywhere you'll have a higher majority of liberals. People tend to be more liberal the younger they are, so go to school anywhere apart from solid republican states will piss you off. And you could always go to school in Utah, Montana or Wyomi

YoungDaphIt seems like the hardcore liberals on this site are more inclined to post a ton in politically themed threads. I feel like the vast majority of more conservative members do the smart thing and keep their mouths shut for fear of being called racist, sexist etc. I am definitely a conservative person, not bible thumping, but still very right wing. I choose not to voice my opinions on NS regarding social matters because i know certain people *cough dingo and uglyboy cough* would freak the fuck out and its just not worth it.
this pretty much sums it up. not just on ns, but in general. you see liberals 100x more likely to voice their opinions online more frequently than conservatives and not care what others think. it makes it seem like there are way more liberals out there, but in reality there are lots of conservatives that don't feel the need to get in everyone's faces online

I disagree 100%. I feel like way more conservatives want to shove their outdated views down everyone's throat on this site. In fact, when things get heated, its usually the conservatives that get all aggressive first.

yeah I agree with Granite here. It feels like Dingo and I are the only liberals on this site to voice our opinions on matters where the majority of the forums are pretty conservative. Look at any feminism/ racism thread on this site and you'll see the majority of the thread is republicans. As well as down votes for anything slightly liberal. But I guess everyone in their respected political agenda thinks they're the minority.

We can argue this all we want. It's still apples to oranges. One side will always think they're right. It's just a continous loop of a liberal speaking against a conservative, then a conservative speaking against liberal. The problem is this two mindset system which leads to the democratic and republican parties has and will continue to fuck this country. There's not a solution to everything but there is a reason why in his farewell adress Washington said to stay away from a two party system.

Lol, you're really that affected by the political views of others?
I can imagine your daily life:
Friend: Hey OP, want to go get breakfast down at the diner?
OP: No, there is this one liberal guy there and I can stand that he reads CNN quitely in the corner.
Friend: Really, you're that butthurt?
OP: Yeah, lets go to McDonalds, theres no libertards there.
Friend: Fuck you OP, I'm gonna go to the diner and fuck yo bitch after.

yeah but all that takes place in a swamp. Southern life sounds god awful in every single way.

You're 18 and yet so sure that your views are the only right ones? Ha! Grow up, kid, and start thinking about other perspectives. That takes maturity, which judging by your posts in this thread, you lack.
And besides, it's not like the people out West only talk about politics. Maybe they'd drive you insane because you'd fixate on that aspect of their personal beliefs and see none of the infinite other aspects of their life. But that's fine, stay where you are. The West doesn't want you anyway.

That is a completely objective viewpoint.
Personally, I'm not really into blonde southern belles who can't carry a conversation past "omg last sunday after church" all while in a mindbendingly horrible valleygirl meets southern accent.
I want the badass jet black hair punk bitch with a full sleeve tattoo, green eyes, and wears a garter belt and stockings under her skirt because "fuck you that's why"... I don't want to go to bed at night with a girl who doesn't even know how to fuckin masturbate because jesus n'stuff...

Hahaha you know most schools in or around skiing tend to be in the mountains out here right? The school I went to in Oregon was within extremely close proximity to some of the most hicktowns I've ever witnessed... I'm talking like, MULTIPLE gun racks in the back of a camo rattlecanned chevy k5 on swampers with cutoff flannel shirts, greasy trucker caps and 13 empty cans of chaw in the passenger seat tray kinda hicktowns...
...Mexican or Chinese restaurants had to be Mexican and AMERICAN or Chinese and AMERICAN restaurants... and this was in a staunchly blue state. The west isn't all gays waving their dicks at you in San Francisco, man.
Either way, good luck going to school in far/away the poorest state in the union. I'm surprised they even still allow public colleges to exist.

Might want to get out more. plenty of crazy down south.
I'm a liberal not because I haven't worked a day in my life,I have. I'm a liberal not because I use my parents money, I buy what I buy with the money I have earned. I'm a liberal because I can't wrap my head around the idea that certain people should not have the same rights as the many because of their sexual orientation. I'm a liberal because I understand that a man who works 3 jobs to keep his family afloat should not have to pay more taxes than a man who gets refunded for using a corporate jet.
cakeshredshardI'm a liberal because I understand that a man who works 3 jobs to keep his family afloat should not have to pay more taxes than a man who gets refunded for using a corporate jet.
Brilliant
Also issues like sexual orientation shouldn't even be issues in the political arena. Maybe you hate the color blue but running a campaign regarding it is just stupid.
That said both sides suck, there isn't shit for a choice, everybody votes for tools and therefor sucks, and we're all going to get eaten by the reincarnation of dinosaurs in the near future hopefully.
