Freeing the Heel

What's telemarking like for anyone who has tried it? Most teleskiers I talk to say that its the best thing ever and they would never go back to alpine again. Has anyone tried it and not liked it at all?

Its real different than alpine, and its a difficult learning curve. But it's way fun. I recommend it for anyone that's gotten bored of in-bounds skiing

i did it for the first time last weekend. Its alot of fun and really different from alpine. teaches you to be centered over your boots. i recommend it

My dad has been skiing tellies about 20 years now. He likes it and now does some park. He can slide mellow down rails and 90 on boxes and come out switch.

Tele skiing is pretty fun, especially if you just want to screw around on moderate slopes and shallow pow. Once you gain some experience you will probably notice that the binding selection sucks though and the boot selection is almost as bad (if you are heavy/an agressive skier).

You have to keep your edge pressure at 50/50 when turning and its way easier to feel tele turns on steeper slopes. Am I converted? No. You will always charge harder on a alpine setup but if you have a friend who can't normally keep up with you tele is a great thing to try and do in that scenario.

Shout out to the guy killing it in the moguls on telemark skis at Steamboat the other day. There were about 10 inches of powder and he did those things better than I can on regular skis.

Telemark; half the binding, half the speed.


All joking aside, telemark seems like a good time. The place I grew up seems to be one of the few that's still crawling with them. I was really close to picking that up when I wanted to learn something other than snowboarding, and I still intend to, but I ended up here first.

I love telemark's natural breakaway and failsafe - Your ACL

But I seriously want to try telemark, it looks like a blast. Tele also makes for sick looking presses.

For what it's worth, telemarking is "better" for your knees, because when you're in a lunge, your knees are more stable and less prone to the twisting that causes you to tear your ACL.
