Scared shitless

the title kinda says it all, im scared shitless.

Ive been seriously injured from skiing and other sports way too many times, starting at 9 years old. I am currently waiting for hip surgery and has shoulder surgery last spring. I now find myself doubting my ability in the park and big mountain. I want to progress and see where skiing takes me but i need to get over my fears of hurting myself even more, and the biggest fear which is failing. I need to find more confidence in myself but i have no idea where to look.

so basically please help me to not be scared shitless anymore.

Take it one step at a time. You'll get back little by little and just be proud of the small steps and let those feel like real accomplishments because they are. When you start seeing yourself come back, you'll get more confidence and keep at it. Don't be afraid. It's what you love to do. Be careful, but not afraid.

This! Don't give up- I know how you feel, and with something like this you really just need to keep getting out on the mountain and working your way back up. It will take a while, and maybe you will prefer to keep out of the park or super steep terrain at first, but with time your confidence will come back! In the mean time, work on things like skiing switch or little butters and side jibs, they will really boost your confidence and style when you're in the park.

Gaining your confidence and mentality back is always more difficult than the physical healing process.

^Like they said, take your time. Don't force yourself to move faster than feels natural.

I broke my collarbone a few years ago and had to have a couple surgeries before I had full movement back. To build my strength (and confidence), I started sport climbing and bouldering. Taking lead falls on a rope I think is one of the best ways to push your skiing and get over your fear of falling in a relatively safe way, assuming your belayer has a soft catch. You can be working on a route for quite sometime, with the ever present possibility of falling a considerable distance, and it requires you to really trust and listen to your body.
