I wear full tilts because they are super comfortable and are the best boots and I want the best stuff because I LOVE skiing. I ski lines because I think they fit my skiing style and I like the feel of riding them. I have nice outerwear because I don't want to get cold on the mountain. All of this I paid for by working. But when I go skiing people judge me and are total dicks to me because my skiing level doesn't necessarily match my gear I guess. I'm still working on getting comfortable sliding rails and doing 3s/5s. But the only reason I wear that gear is because it's nice and I want quality gear because skiing is my favorite sport, not because I'm trying to be cool. What do you guys think?
I think people are assholes and are too concerned about other people. Just do you. Who gives a shit what you wear or how good you are? That's not what skiing should be about. Just go out there and have some fun with your buddies, shred some pow or take a few hot laps, have a beer or two, and life will be good.
My advice to you is to shake it off dude, it is not the end of the world. The people that give you shit for wearing the gear you wear are just fuck boys. Just do you, progress and hone your skills, and hopefully sooner or later they will do them and leave you alone.
I literally am the same way i ski lines with marker bindings Smith helmet and goggles, im not the best skier but i work for everything i have because i love skiing.
I'm in the same boat as you (skill) and I rock a lot of cool ass gear (90% bought from fellow newschoolers). I make a fairly living, working full time so I enjoy buying nice gear, supporting fellow nsers as well as my local shops because I absolutely love the industry. My skill set will eventually catch up But for now I'm that "kid rocking his parents wallet".
I'm the exact same way I noticed that I started having a lot more fun skiing and became more confident in what I wear when I stopped giving a shit about what faggot ass fuck boys think. As long as you like what you wear and have fun skiing, most reasonable people don't give a flying fuck about what you wear and how it corresponds with your ability level.

Take this as an opportunity to be educated about how not to become a sheeple, your worrying about being judged means your taking cues about what is acceptable, what is the park dress code what is the right way to ski, fuck all that and if you love skiing just ski. Also demo some other gear and see whats out there before buying next time

This kid has it all wrong, it's not about what he thinks about your gear, (which obviously he is the gear god and will decide for you the gear he deems fit.) it's about what you think of your gear.
The skiers who condescend you on the mountain are usually the ones who are the most worried about what others are thinking about them. Additionally, I'm going to assume it's mostly in the park, they can't ski for shit outside of park, so they need reassurance that park skiing is the be all and end all of skiing.
I ride J Skis whip-its but I'm a terrible park skier. I am very good at cliffs, chutes, powder, anything else. Your gear really shouldn't define how you ski.

I'm in the exact same boat as you except I've bought even more stuff and am worse than you haha. I still have yet to throw my first 360 and I'm still on boxes (to scared to do either, maybe next month!)
Honestly from what I have noticed is the guys that are dicks are the guys that aren't that super talented. And the insanely good / talented people from most interactions I've had are crazy nice.
I've gotten to talk to some red bull athletes (which is insane in my mind) and they were the nicest dudes and even took a good 10 mins before a jump to give me tips.
Really for me it comes down to not caring what anyone thinks and keep focused on how much falling on / off the next box I hit will hurt my old and feeble body.
I feel like the whole SAGA thing has been really blowing up lately. Not their popularity (though that is also true).. but the stigma of wearing SAGA against your skill level. It it insane to me that people feel they can make an assumption about somebody else being a "trend whore" purely based on a small interaction made within an internet forum.
Is it so far fetched that somebody may order SAGA, or Line, or whatever other companies people on here are now claiming to be "trendy" because they actually like the gear?
I have a shit ton of SAGA, I will admit that. Why? Certainly not because it seems cool, in fact.. if people were really to take into consideration the general vibe and acceptance of SAGA based on some of these NS posters, I think they would be scared to death to buy a T-shirt just to hide under their jacket. I have ran through the gamut of outerwear.. Holden, Flylow, Neff, Columbia, NF, 4S, random sweaters.. blah blah blah.. and out of all of those, SAGA's quality has held up to what I wanted and the fit/style has always been the best for what I personally liked. It also doesn't hurt that SAGA is available for so damn cheap. I am assuming a lot of people who purchase SAGA (whether using their card or someone else's) may be feeling the same way. Just maybe.
I hate to drop these rants, but I reached the end of my rope re-reading the same crap once again, but just under a different thread title. If you like it, buy it. If you don't like it.. well don't. That is all that matters and that is the whole purpose of having all of these options anyways. To be able to provide for everyone and their interests. So with that said...

Am I just too big and old so people don't fuck with me on the hill, or do I just always have my music blaring too loud when I go to the park because I hear all this talk about judgement and kids talking shit but I can not think of a single time anyone ever talked shit to me. Although I have a Saga coat, I usually wear my goggles OVER my helmet so maybe that's why?
I had the Epic pass for the past 4-5 years. Never got in trouble with a yellow jacket. Then I bought a XL Saga jacket and ironically the first day I wore that outfit a yellow jacket came at me hard; judgement maybe?

SFBs are good if you want a super soft buttery ski that bends like nobodys business in any amount of chop. Ive always wanted to try the motherships or prophets...maybe those would be stiffer than a wet noodle.
