snowballsdeepi highly disagree, more kids have defiantly been stabbed at school then shot. i know for sure there was 5 at my country ass school ( not getto at all) and i was one of the stabbers (it was a pencil). and I'm completely normal...
KayngBayng>>>I've actually seen guns that aren't registered to anyone here as well.
holy shit. I hope you're OK.
*there isn't a gun registry. I'd be impressed if you saw guns that HAD to be registered (the lucky few who have prohib licences that have awesome things like FAL's and P90's)

What do you qualify as registered? The serial number on a shotgun you buy is linked to your name...
Seriously, look at Australia, you have every right to own a gun here but after the Port Arthur massacre legislation changed to where Semi-automatic rifles and pump action/self-loading shotguns were banned from civilians and a genuine reason was required for all other firearms. Both a firearms license and a buyers permit are necessary to legally purchase a firearm. Furthermore, an acceptable reason must be stated on the permit for buying the weapon, and a minimum 28 day "cooling off" period must be enforced before the issuing of the license.

When you buy a new gun most stores write your name down (not by law), but that doesn't go further than the sheet of paper it's written on unless the cops come asking who bought .308 weapons in the past year or something.
then soon as you leave a store the weapon can be legally sold to whoever the fuck you want with no papertrail so long as they have a license.
There is no registration for firearms anymore (there used to be). So there is no database linking anyone's name to any gun.

very true as soon as i turned 18 i bought a pistol from some dude off line. 100% legal so long as i open carry it. i could agree some regulations should be put in-place but only by state not federal.
pussyfooterPeople can kill people without guns, thats the ideology. If someone wants to kill someone, they will, sure a gun makes it easier but thats not a reason to ban guns/crack down on guns.
How many mass murders occurred because of guns by a single nut? How many mass murders have occurred using any other form of weapon by a single nut? Yes you can kill people using a pencil but its far more difficult than using a knife, which is far more difficult than using a gun.
The 2nd Amendment claims you have a right to bare arms. It is written so that it can be taken as everyone, no matter who you are as long as you're a citizen, can own a gun. Do you really want everyone to own a gun? What harm will it do to make owning a gun a harder process? The legitimate people who genuinely need a gun or are responsible will still own a gun. All it will do is keep guns outta the hands of the people who shouldn't have one.
The argument that "oh if they really want to mass kill, they will get one". First, yes that hypothetical situation can be correct but in the end, it has still made it far harder for that person to obtain a gun. Second, look at all the mass shooters. They all have one thing in common, they're normal citizens (mostly middle/upper class) with mental issues. They're not hardened criminals and I can guarantee they don't know the first thing about obtaining an illegal firearm. They all get the guns either legally (the fucking Columbine kids ordered theirs through the mail) or from someone they knew that didn't know how to lock their guns up.
Preventing new laws just because someone might one day break that law is an idiotic argument and can be applied to every law that's ever been created.
The only people who are against tougher regulations are either people too blinded by political rhetoric or are tied directly to the gun business. Its so easy to get a gun, you can go into a Wal-Mart and walk out with a shotgun a half hour later. Anyone who sees that as OK is missing a few brain cells and its not surprising that the rest of the world views the U.S. as full of morons.

This is not how it works in the United States

well yea, you have to be 21 to have you CCL. We cant regulate what people do with guns after they are purchased from stores.
El_Barto.a handgun that was made to kill people. Seriously, whats the purpose of a handgun? Its only purpose is to kill people. If we made it harder or even illegal to buy hand guns nobody would be able to shoot anyone with one anymore. Gun violence would go down, gamg violence would go down and test scores would go up because kids would study instead of shoot each other. I dont like people getting shot or failing tests, do you?
Im with you OP
How long will it be before they make knives and forks illegal? They may not have been made for killing but one way or another some crazy ass psychopath will find a way to kill people with them. I'm pro second amendment but believe we should do more background checks and licensing qualifications before selling them

When will blind, bipartisan nuts like you give up on that stupid argument? You cannot mow down 20 kids in a school or 30 people in a theater in the span of minutes with a fork or knife. Gun control is not about preventing a single person or a couple from being killed by a psychopath.
Let's try your logic in another instance...
"We shouldn't restrict bombs because you can kill someone with a knife! what's next after banning bombs? Banning knives? Its so ridiculous because they will find a way to kill someone one way or another"

If you buy a gun from a licensed store, you will be connected to that gun via serial number. A friend and I were pulled over before with our hunting gear in the back. The sherrif searched the truck and checked the serial numbers of our shotguns. Mine came up good and that I owned it. My friends came up as stolen and belonging to someone else. It turned out his grandpa took it from an old friend 20 years ago and gave it to my friend. This was all figured out in a matter of minutes using the serial numbers. I have no idea why you think it is otherwise.

I think otherwise because I live in a different country than you with different laws.
If a cop pulls me over and I have firearms in my car, he has no way of knowing if I'm the owner. They have no registry to check.

Right...because knives werent designed to kill things (People are things)
It's actually both, which makes you an idiot, you think it's only crazy people killing other people? We all get sad and angry sometimes, doesn't mean you should be able to buy a gun 20 minutes later.
Yep. Bar none the dumbest thing said in a thread filled with idiotic shit.
That being said I couldn't see myself living in a country where there are 90 guns per 100 residents and people have the idea that it's their patriotic duty to own an assault rifle.
I just don't get the idea that taking away an assault rifle is taking away freedom. I agree with Jim Jefferies on this one. The only valid argument for why americans need guns is "fuck you, we like guns"
The mental illness debate is tied into it for sure, but in a country of like 300 million people I believe, I cannot see a system where you can diagnose and monitor every single person who has a mental illness. I have a lot of experience with mental illness so don't take that as ignorance on the subject.
You should probably go look at the statistics on how many people kill themselves with the registered gun they own per year. I'll reread that post but I'm pretty sure I said its not just crazy people that kill......

You dont even know what an assault rifle is... youre just another person who have adopted the medias definition of assault rifle intended to scare people.
In dealing with mass shootings, what would be a quicker solution to the issue... harder criteria and more strictly enforced regulations on buying a firearm or solving all mental issues that are facing our society?
Well it just so happens the latter is impossible as of right now so you have to discuss options that are based in reality. Also since when did discussing one thing mean that you're completely dismissing another issue?
When the whole world seems retarded and you're the only sane one, its usually the other way around.
.Hugo.You dont even know what an assault rifle is... youre just another person who have adopted the medias definition of assault rifle intended to scare people.
You seem to think assault rifles are easy to get, so I assume you think ar 15s are assault rifles? An assault rifle is actually a FULLY automatic rifle designed for military use. Since ar 15s are neither fully automatic or designed for military use, they are in fact not assault rifles, despite the fact that the media refers to them as one. Its just a scare tactic they developed when assault rifles were actually banned in the mid 80s

I don't actually know a thing about guns. Never even shot one. Rarely been in the same room as one. But I looked up what an AR15 was and I don't see the point of the argument you made was. I called it by the wrong name. What does that change about my point? That's not a hunting gun, that's not even a gun you can carry for self defence. What is it for?
I will admit to being ignorant on the specifics of the debate. But what is a good reason that someone needs something like this?

I just dont like when people call them assault rifles, as its just feeding into the medias scare tactic. I bet youd be surprised at how many people use ARs for hunting, and they are pretty popular amongst target shooters.
Also, the only difference between the picture you posted and the one below, is that your gun looks "scarier"
The level of denial and/or complete ignorance of history is astounding.
Americans like alcoholic beverages. People drink them. Prohibition was an attempt to get people to stop drinking. People still drank and all it did was strengthen organized crime. They got really good at smuggling liquor into this country and people made their own. Some of it was toxic and killed people.
Americans want to own guns and have a constitutional right to do so. There are people who want to outlaw guns. If they succeed in any capacity, people will still find ways to get guns, and once again, organized crime will be the beneficiaries. The Mexican drug cartels build submarines to smuggle drugs into the U.S. Do you really think they can't afford to buy 3d printers and milling machines and make their own weapons? Do you think they will have a tough time smuggling them into the U.S., if they thought they could make more money doing it? Do you think people won't be able to obtain design plans for just about any weapon made, which they could load into their own 3D Printers or Mills? People will make their own guns and some of them will be dangerous and will kill the people firing them and/or other innocent people who happen to be nearby.
Gun control will fail as dramatically as prohibition, but the nanny goats in our society will continuously try to eliminate anything and everything that could be harmful.

Sweet fallacies comparing guns to distilling alcohol. If you were to ban all guns today it would not be the same as banning all alcohol. I can make beer in my basement.
You know how much guns cost on the black market in Australia? Go ahead I'll wait.
I don't understand why so many morons who are pro gun. Thinks that whenever somebody says we need to have stricter background checks and laws. They immediately jump to the conclusion that we're trying to rip all guns out of their hands, and want them banned forever, that will not 100% fix the problem. and I don't think anyone really believes that's what we should do.
But you are a dumbass if you think banning all guns wouldn't help to solve the problem. am I saying that's what we should do no, but you would see a drastic decline in gun deaths if we did do that.
By the way way to sit there and complain behind the keyboard, and not give a single solution to the problem.

So wait you're saying that instead of banning guns we should just have stricter oversight and regulations in dealing with them much like we did with alcohol?
Wow, what insight. So smart. Its just like what most people are begging for.

I love how people try to compare Australia with the U.S. without taking into account the huge geographic differences. Does Australia share a border with a country where organized criminals have more money and resources than the government? Is it possible for people to walk across the border into Australia? I don't know what guns cost on the black market in Australia and it is irrelevant. I do know plenty of Aussies who own guns and I wonder how that is possible with the ban in place. Just so you know, it is a lot easier to control many things including immigration when you are surrounded on all sides by water. However, please continue to bask in your own bullshit.

A lot of AR-15's ARE assault rifles by definition. Just mostly the military variants with selective fire.
So you can can accurately call an AR-15 an assault rifle.

way to only address one of my seven points in my last post, because as usual you're wrong. if you sell 5 bottles of vodka the people during Prohibition. you're getting 5 people drunk, that is not equivalent to selling 5 people automatic weapons to kill other people.
I don't give a shit if you own a gun, but we have a major problem in this country where schizophrenics are able to pick up a gun and walk into a school. You have kids, I think one law should be if 1 of your kids is diagnosed with a mental illness your done with guns and they get taken away end of discussion.
Also don't talk to me about the bullshit, Mr health care is going to be the downfall of our country. Somebody was very wrong about that

The military version of an ar 15 is the m16. ARs are not sold in stores with full auto or selective fire. The cost to convert an AR to full auto is insanely high, and you have to wait months for the forms to clear. I dont know how you can say there are a lot of ARs that are assault rifles. It takes a $15,000 + purchase to make them fit that definition and not a lot of people have that kind of money to spend on a gun.

Well first thing is that you should educate yourself on the "ban" and how its not an outright ban on all firearms. Secondidly, if you're going to play the self defense from cartels and immigrants card, please show any source that shows citizens involved in situations where owning a firearm has protected them from immigrants/cartel members. I read one once...
and i dont care about whats in the military, those arent in the possession of civilians. even though they use m16s and m4s, not ar15s
yet they all fall under AR-15s. you can't say "ARs aren't assault rifles" then close your eyes and yell when someone points out that many ARs are indeed assault rifles. Many ARs are assault rifles. get over it.

No they are not. 99.99% of all civilian owned AR15s are not select fire. Select fire is what constitutes an assualt rifle. No select fire, no assualt rifle. Now kindly shut the fuck up...or better yet, go shoot something
VinnieFyet they all fall under AR-15s. you can't say "ARs aren't assault rifles" then close your eyes and yell when someone points out that many ARs are indeed assault rifles. Many ARs are assault rifles. get over it.
I said the ones available to the public in a firearms dealer are not assault rifles. The only excepetion is if it is a pre 1986 gun, or someone got a permit and shelled out over $15000 on a drop in autosear that is pre 1981. There are so little that are in circulation and they are so expensive to obtain that they are not the guns people should even be worried about.
I know a lot of rifles fall under the ar category, but why would anyone care about the ones that are only available to the military? I've been talking about rifles strictly available to civilians...
