I'm not a fan of small dogs. Personally I like mine mid sized. I've got a Plott Hound cutreny and he's perfect.
I had a Great Dame growing up, and I sell, I like big dogs as well.
Small ones are too yippy and little.
I prefer large breed dogs for certain, but the only small dogs that are acceptable in my personal opinion are Pugs. If you don't understand why, look them up.
I could never take a yappy little lap dog. I love medium sized dogs like Aussies, border collies, pits, and such. Big dogs are great too but I want a dog that can work my yard and can snuggle with me and not take up the entire bed.
I had a medium sized black lab when I was little and he was the best dog I could ever have had. he was super mellow but still energetic. I love giant dogs though. my grandparents had a huge newfoundland once and it was like a giant slobbery friendly bear.
If I was a pet person, I would be a bigger dog person (lab, German shepherd, husky, etc).
That said, my mom's got a dachshund and he's pretty freaking awesome. Not yappy at all and struts around like a boss. Also, they were originally bred to crawl into holes and kill badgers, so that's kind of awesome.
I don't like little dogs, they can be fun but honestly so can all the others.
I have two medium sized springer spaniels, they're awesome. Super energetic, really friendly and occassionally calm. They also live for ages, but after they're about 10 they start to slow down.
Big dogs are awesome though. The only downsides are the massive amount of food, the massive amount of poop, and they don't live all that long. We had a bernese like ^^, he was awesome. My dad used to take him ski touring, the dog would follow all the way up the mountain and then slide down on all fours alongside. He was super lethargic at home when he wasn't outside, we had an Aga (type of range that is never turned off, it's always warm and an environmentalists nightmare), the dog just slept in front of that most of the day.

I was about to comment that for a seemingly useless small dog breed, Dachshunds are natural born killers and can murk the fuck out of certain small animals, and I want one really bad. Jack Russels are also great dogs. I have one that is 14 now and he only recently started slowing down, however he fell off pretty quick since we're all pretty sure he can't see anymore.
As for big dogs, I've had a chocolate lab, and I currently have some kind of black lab, pit bull, and miniature pinscher mix. She's about 70 or 80lbs, all black, loud and can come off as menacing, but mostly she's really really annoying. She's really weird, but I love her to death.
Can't really tell you if I prefer big dogs or small dogs, I enjoy having both around.
big and medium dogs all the way anyday!
my favourite dog is a golden lab so yeah but if i had to choose medium and small my favs would be corgis and shiba inu they are fucking adorable. but for a real dog get something that isnt a rat
two words - golden doodle. best dogs of all time. they are incredibly intelligent like poodles, and are incredibly active playful and kind like a golden retriever and will never seem old. its as if they are puppies for the entirety of their lives. not to mention they are giant balls of fluff and are hypoallergenic so they don't shed and get your house dirty. and since they are a mixed breed they are healthier dogs in general and range in size from a small horse to small labrador.
2. Old English Sheepdog - these things actually normally live for 10 years, which is unusual for their size. They're not quite as big as the otterhound though.
3. Newfoundland - particularly if I ever move back to the coast. These beasts are beautiful and amazing swimmers. They're still actively used in S&R, a beech on the south coast of the UK has one that has a better rescue rate than human lifeguards.
What's that red thing between his ... erm, nevermind.
I would only ever have big dogs but small ones have there place aswell, I watched a pack of terriers and jack russels ratting on a farm once, really impressive their speed and ability to catch rats.
newfs are special dogs and there is a reason Lewis and Clark chose one to accompany them in the corps of discovery and is honored in history.
gentle giants ftw
I have a bull mastiff now but I think he will be the last big dog I have for a while. It's just so much damn work to have a big-ass dog. Especially when he's as huge and stubborn and lazy as the Brumeister.
Growing up, I had a miniature schnauzer that lived from the time I was five years old until a little after my 22nd birthday
We were all really attached to the dog but she wasn't very active and was essentially boring
Was hard putting her down but a few months before she passed we got a German shorthaired pointer
That dog is the shit, obedient and fun loving needs people around compared to the schnauzer that just needed fed
Now that I'm out on my own, we picked up a doberman pup and couldn't be happier. The thing loves everyone and likes being around people but doesn't whine when crated. Housetraining has been a breeze and she's picking up the basic commands pretty quickly. Only problem is, she sits at my wife's feet and stares at me whenever I move always putting herself between me and the wife....I'm pretty she she is just waiting until she's big enough to eat me...
I guess I just like bigger dogs because there more fun to rough house with and don't need let out ever hour and a half. I also like I dog that kind of gives off a don't fuck with me vibe even though they're big babies
1. Otterhounds look fuckin sick, but their hair gets super nasty, my friend has one and its basically dreadlocks and its always super smelly.

2. Newfoundlands are THE BEST. such nice dogs. my grandparents had one of these beasts until I was about 10 and it was so sick. Nicest dog I have ever seen. Super goofy, and loved to play, but it was also so well behaved and gentle, I used to let it onto my bed when I would stay their on christmas and falling asleep with it as my giant fuzzy pillow is still one of my most nostalgic memories.
