Trees runs or wide open?

There is jut something about skiing in the woods shooting around trees, taking a couple "surprise" cliff drops I really enjoy. It's like an all natural, mountain made playground. I also enjoy those wiiiide open areas where you can just rip it up, shoot some wind lips and just cruise. I prefer being in the woods over it all though.

Do you have a preference NSrs?

Above treeline gnar is the most fun. You can go waaay bigger, ski waaaay faster, and get waaaaay radder.

Not to mention you dont have to worry about so many things to wrap yourself around, fall into, or get caught up on.

In bounds, not likely. not impossible, but certainly waaaaay less chance of me getting slid compared to me wrapping myself around a tree, or going headfirst into a deep treewell.

And FWIW, yes i have gotten slid through a short chute a few years ago, so i know first hand its possible.


(Maritime snowpack) + (daily avalanche control throughout the season) + (good visibility i.e. not nuking snow or blowing snow) + (charging at speed/having a good idea about your line) = acceptable risk in my book.

But hey, tree skiing certainly doesnt suck haha.

At Snowbird last year we had to shut down Baldy for 3 days because it slid the first day of the Freeride World Tour.

Very possible.

You never know, but the prevailing feeling is that if patrol hadnt wasted a months worth of boom sticks over 2 days trying everything they posssibly could to get it to slide, it never would have slid. Basically they ruined a perfectly safe slope.

In any case, the avalanche control work...worked. so whats your point with that example. Do you even know what those booms are early in the morning? Its patrol, causing avalanches...so they dont happen to you when you get out on that slope.

Sugarloaf's Brackett Basin is one of the best places to ski trees in the east on a deeper day in my opinion. Its like a huge ass glade where you can do whatever you want. As an east coast skier I dont really experience pow so I'd certainly have to go with trees.
