how long did it take you to progress to where you are now? when did you start and what did you accomplish in those seasons?

for me, i started last year, i learned how to ski basic stuff, then worked on small jumps, 50/50s, a few 180s and a few flat 3's,simple grabs like safety and a japans, and basic 90on 90off on boxes and a few rails. i think that was pretty good for 1st season.

what was it like for you guys?

Started park skiing in the 10/11 season. I would slide baby boxes and do sloppy 360s.

11/12
Learned to slide a rail. Also learned how to dick suck tuck frontflip, and got more fluent with 360s.

12/13
Got more confident on rails. Learned 540s. Did a couple sloppy underflips but i was didnt really progress all that much.

(Went to a ski camp and actually trained over summer after this season)

13/14
Confident sliding every rail in the park. Twos and fours out. Front and surface swaps. 50/50s

Learned backflips, flat 3s and rodeo 5s/7s

I started last year too, so I'll break it down by months lol

December - February: Basic trails and form practice
February - March: Sliding boxes, going off jumps, safety grab.
March - Mid-March: 360, critical grab, started sliding some basic rails

Started in 2010

started near the end of the 2012/2013 season. I could 50/50 boxes.

first day of 2013/2014 season I learned 180's and how to slide boxes normally. over the rest of the season I learned front 270's off boxes, sketchy 360's, could slide a down tube and I was getting pretty close to sliding flat bars.

I'm hoping this season I get the rest of the basics down pretty quick and can go on from their.

Really haven't progessed much but I just try n go have fun. I can do every rail in the park, some 3s, ugly 5s. I dont really head into the park much anymore

14/15 (hopefully) - Rodeo 5's, cork 7's, and under flips switch jump tricks, tech rail tricks, plus hoping to spend a lot of time filming. ]

Hope I don't sound like to much of a claiming douche.

started:
December 2012, learned to ski switch and hit boxes my first day.
January started landing 3's and grabbed 3's on smaller jumps
February learned 270 on 270 off on flat rails and also 540s
March learned disaster 270s onto flat downs
halfway through march i tore my Acl Mcl and both left and right meniscus trying to disaster 270 to 270 out on a flat down box.

have only skied twice since then but god damn am I more than ready for this season.

11/12 (first year skiing) sketchy 360, a few boxes, a flatbar, 180, went to switch on a rail. No jumps (snowbasin only had like a 60 footer that i was too scared to hit)

12/13 Least amount of progression that year, I couldn't ski much. 360, attempted backflip, down rail blind and front 270 out. many grabs on jumps.

13/14 (most amount of progression so far) 540, 720, 900, cork360, cork720, flatspin, backflip, rodeo540, grabs with my spins. 450 both ways, switch ups, surface swaps, lip slides, hand drag 360s, butters, nosebutter 540, disaster, onefoot slide, all rails. most jumps (biggest is 75 footer) comfort level is big.

14/15 Double?

Now i do all the rail,270 in and out, switch up, japan grapan,360,360 on a box.

13/14 40 days of only park at local hill, 25 days at mountains 75% pow/all mountain 25% park... all rails natural and unnatural, 2 on both was, sw 2 on both ways, 6's out all 4 ways, swaps all 4 ways. right spins up to 5's. sw up to 9. flat 3/5. sw cork 5/7, cork 3/5/7, dub back

Year 1(last year, also first year skiing)- learned how to ski downhill and over the mountain and by the end of the year began attempting just getting courage to hit jumps.

Plans this year- begin hitting rails and boxes and do basic tricks, getting more confidence with jumps.

Start skiing last years

I skied 9 times in the season

1 day, I learned how to ski in general

2nd day, I learned switch and 50-50 on boxes

3rd day try small jumps with safety and getting confortable on boxes

4th day i learn how to do 90 on 90 out on small rail and down tube

5th day I get more comfortable on rail and learned bs 270 off and 90 on to switch

6th day I learned on jump: 180(and unnaty), 360 and 540

7th day I added safety to all the spin and jaban, (stalefish in 180)

8th and last day I get more confortable with the tricks I learned and try bigger jump and urban rail.

started 13/14
learned some box tricks and slid a couple basic rails. a couple sketchy 180s and 360s aswell.

14/15
got 2s on, kfeds, rfeds, blind and front 2s out. was able to slide most rails in the park. got better at 360s and 540s and got 360s with basic grabs. I also got close to a couple lincolns

Last year was my first season ever. I'm from Denmark so i've only had the opportunity to shred 7 days a year before this. So i went to Whistler and skied most bc, but I had like 30 full days in the park.

I quickly learned 180's, and started sliding on boxes, and soon after taking it to rails(flat, down & kink/curved) I would tear my body to pieces learning to get the rails right. After that i got comfortable with them, and learned to do 270 fs off and 270 bs. Then i learned 360, but they still look awful. I managed to do a front and backflip on a bc kicker. Late in the season i learned to do switch 180 and sketchy switch 360's. And then on the last day off the season i tore my ACL, LCL and meniscus.

I think i did pretty well, but i would have loved to do some flips in the park. Now i'm recovering from my injury almost 3 months post surgery. I'm hoping to be ready in Jan, but i'm beginning to have doubts.

If i will be ready i promised myself to try some corks, just because i think it looks fun and dope as fuck.

Exactally what I was thinking, either expert trollmanship or didn't spend enough time learning to ski, but who knows he could be a really fast learner. Though personally it took me much longer than 1 day to learn how to ski....

13/14 was first season
I got 180's with grabs, 360's with easy grabs, 540's, butter 3's and 5's, almost a butter 7, front 2's, blind 2's, front swap, switch on's and a switch on front up once, switch on front 2, worked on style a lot
Hopin to progress a lot more next season

Started skiing park properly this season just finished (NZ Season)

Can slide boxes, 180, landed some nose butter 3's, landed some very sloppy 360's, switch 180, and learnt safety, critical, mute and tail grab

Next season hoping to get 3s down, work loads on style, work on nose butters, rails and backflips.

It took me one year to learn a bunch of tricks and get good enough to feel comfortable in the park. Now I just like going really fast and doing 360's with grabs. I don't find learning new tricks fun anymore.

Oh i must add, I learned a ton of new tricks my first year because I felt very self conscious in the park. So I compensated by trying super hard to learn a bunch of tricks hoping that would make me feel less anxious every time the park was busy. I still kind of get anxious when people are watching from the lift and stuff so that's probably why I just do what I know how to do now.

Well, I got 360s on my first try. I've gone skiing around 35 times in my lifetime (all in the last 2 1/2 years). I've spent maybe 5 hours in the park? I'm not a huge park guy. I can ski the whole mountain very well, I'm joining a team this year and competing and I can backflip. I think I'm progressing pretty quickly. I'm planning to get over 70 days this year and spend more time in the park. I'm also going to be an instructor.

You've had a lifetime 35 days on skis and you're going to become an instructor? Where do you ski?

Started skiing park actively 2 years ago.
On rails I can do fs switchups, Kfed, fs 450 out.
On jumps 720, 540 with basic grabs. Also stared doing some urban last season.

I started skiing last year. I spent all of it working on form and terrain. I got up to between lv 7-8 on Breck's "Mix Academy" scale.

I found out that I really like skiing trees even though I can be very cautious in them. I got to hike Berthoud with some friends [which ended up being embarrassing because I was nervous], and I also accidentally did a double black run as I was exploring in the trees which got the anxiety pumping.

At the end of the season, when I got my first pair of skis, I started working on going as fast as I could in powder, and also getting more confidence at popping off of anything and everything without studying it before hand.

I'm nursing a leg injury right now, so I hope to start the ski season learning how to ski switch to keep things easier, and also do smoother groundspins.

I still am pretty poor at big bumps so I hope to work on that in the early season too.

I also have this sort of idiotic fear of Indian Ridge at Copper Mountain because I was really worried about somehow blasting through the rope and falling down the ridge on my first day skiing [fear is a pretty common thing for me with skiing..], so I'd like to do get rid of that fear earlier on in the season.

I basically started park skiing this year (last year I was that gaper that slid the boxes all the time) but I got 360-720 surface spins on boxes, learned to hit rails, 360's, switch 180's 360's with safety grab and I got pretty confident with rails. I learned a backside 270 out and a normal 270 out. I also tried a backflip and a flatspin into an airbag and I got the backflip first try but the flatspin was very new to me but I almost got the flat 5. That is basically my progression this year.

Yeah I can't believe how many new skiers there are. My first time in the park was 97 I think. This thread has really made me feel old.

Started skiing park early last season.

Learned 180s right away, then 360s then rail slides, then FS 270s, then 540s, then BS 270s then backflips at windells. Great year, so stoked for this season.

Most people hit their peak participation on newschoolers in their first years of skiing, there are typically more newer members posting in forums than older ones. There are exceptions but that's just what I've noticed. After awhile it gets old but you'll always come crawling back.

I've seen kids throw cork 9s second year. If you come from a gymnastics background aerials are significantly easier. There are 11 and 12 year olds at my mountain that cork 7 and flat 3 but can't slide a rail.

Yep, I just learnt them on the tramp first. Did like 200+ on my tramp over the course of a few weeks decided to yolo it one night, first try my ski flew off because I spun to early on take off second time I landed.

I ski in a snowdome as well so I never actually have an off season, I can ski 365 days a year (provided I don't get hurt) which really helps because I don't lose tricks, getting to practice at least 2 times a week helps a lot. Also for me progression has been exponential in the sense that when I first started it took me forever to learn new stuff but now it takes me way less time. For example it took me 20+ tries to get a 360, then it took me 10+ tries to get a 540 but 720 and 900's only took 2 or 3 tries to land.

I started hitting park when I was about 12 but never really got into it until 2-3 years ago.

The first two years I just did basic shit, 3s, switch 1s, front and blind 2s, stuff like that and I got comfortable on most features. At the end of last season I was working on 2s on, swaps, and 5s.

First year 12/13, I learned 1s,3s,5s,7s basic railing.
Second season 13/14 Back, front, Misty 5 and 7 flat 3,5,7 rodeo 5,7 zero spin, switch 1 and 3 and I almost landed a bio 9 in the spring.

So stoked for next season, got so many new tricks I wanna do on snow. My motto is "if ya can do it on tramp, you can do it on snow". I have a shitty trampoline so I have to really huck to get the tricks around, and I use the same amount of momentum on skis. Can't wait.

thanks, biggest kicker that I had the opportunity to hit this year was around 30ft. Pretty mellow, but it was sweet to chill around on it and get comfy. This year is going to get much better tho
