Bombogenesisidk man...the guy reached into his car pretty quickly and you never know what he could have been grabbing whether or not he was prompted to retrieve his license. Still, the cop probably didn't have to unload. Should have been better communication.

The guy did make a pretty quick turn to the car. Personally, if someone, i.e. a cop has a gun pointed at me, I'm not making any abrupt movements without first announcing my intent. "OK, officer, I need to reach in to the car to grab it."
Should the cop be fired? Absolutely. Do I feel he should be facing 20 years in prison for this mistake? No, I don't really think I do.

.Hugo.Cops are trained to shoot multiple times if there is a perceived threat, they dont shoot to wound. 1 shot could easily miss or minorly wound the threat giving them an opportunity to shoot/fight back. That is why you never see a cop shoot once and why your "if he fired one shot" argument doesnt work.
Im not saying what he did is right at all or that the guy was a threat. Just simply telling you why he fired more than once

I get that there are a lot of good cops out there and I fully support the idea of a police force, but there sure as hell have been a lot of stories of some really fucked up cops out there lately. There have been many instances when a cop shot someone because they thought the person had a gun. Most of those instances did not result in the cop being charged with a crime.
Watch the video again. The cop continued shooting when the guy got back out of his car with nothing but his wallet in his hand.
A cop cant ask someone to get their drivers license and then open fire on them when the person grabs their wallet.
There was nothing done by that guy to warrant that kind of reaction, especially over a seat belt violation?!!?!?

Why didn't the guy have his wallet on him? He pulled up to a convenience store, got out of his car and started to close the door. At that point where is he going without a wallet? Is it that unreasonable to think maybe he was diving back into the car for a weapon?

to add to it, he shoots 4 times: one hits the guy, another misses, and another two he shoots and misses with AFTER the guy has his hands up, away from any object that could possibly conceal a threat. so not only can this cop not hit his target (with people all around) more than 1 out of 4 times from less than 10 feet away, he also doesnt have the situational awareness to top shooting when there is clearly no threat.
he shows himself to be dangerously incompetent and negligent, and the court case will reflect that (he's already been fired). your thought that you don't think he should be facing 20 years in prison for it is asinine. you would never say that about a civilian who created such a dangerous situation and harm to someone by being so out of line. the situation was in the cop's hands from the start and he blew it in multiple ways.

Like I said before....police officers are and should be held to a higher standard. They are suposed to be trained well enough to avoid situations like this.
In my mind there is no excuse. He chose to become a police officer, no one forced him to. So therefor she should be held accountable for his actions to the fullest extent of the law.

Consider the average sentence for raping someone is just over 5 years in the US (not saying it's right. It should be more), and average manslaughter sentence is around 10 years. You think shooting a few bullets into a car door (with one grazing the victims hip. No serious injuries) deserves more than 20 years? I don't follow your logic.

there's no additional direction, no objection to the way he's acting, and no indication that this is a tense situation in which turning around to follow direction will get you shot. once again, the cop calls the shots, and he blew it. this is independent from the mistakes he made missing the target 3 times, twice while the guy's hands are in the air

The cop opened fire on someone in broad daylight at gas station with no regard for anyone's safety what so ever. What if someone else standing behind him got shot? What if the guy or someone else died? Would your view points be different?
I agree raping someone and getting 5 years is terrible. However I firmly believe he deserves the 20 years for acting like this.
There is a reason why police officers go through training, to avoid situations like this.
What is more appalling to me is the way the cop conducted himself after realizing he just shot a guy holding his wallet.
