Boots to soft?

Just got some new ski boots and they are only 60 flex he said they were the only ones wide enough for my feet. I am 5 11 148 lbs and I am an advanced skier. I ski a lot of trees pow groomers and bumps
Are these boots took soft? I don't ski Park very often

Probably.

I weigh 50lbs more than you, and I don't like anything softer than about a 110.


All boots are different though. A 60 from one manufacturer isn't the same as a 60 from another.

i was in your position 2 years ago. i bought dalbello 65s and im 6'1 160, i ski aggrissivley, hit jumps, jib around, ect. what ended up happening is that i over flexed the boot all the time, and got massive shin bang.

Who sold you those? 60is silly soft even a beginer would generally need stiffer then thAt. Obviously getting the width right is important but you can't ignore every other aspect just to get the width. Was it a case of not much in stock or was it just a salesman rather then a boot fitte who served you.

My current boots are 60s which is why it's my first priority to get new boots. I skied park last year and They didn't hold up well at all.
This year I'll probably get 85s or 90s, simply because I don't have much money and if I stick with the 60s I'll get rekt

Alpine haus in Connecticut. The guy knew how to size a boot but other than that knew nothing about skiing I told him I wanted to keep the price down so he brings out one boot and doesn't tell me anything about it. I only knew it was 60 flex after I got home

What? No. Medium is the flex (60, 80, 100, etc.) Medium will be somewhere around 80-100

the boot fitter at my shop lol he sold me my last pair which is way to big. time for year 3 of new boots

I would take them back to the shop and get a refund. Obviously the guy fitting you knows very little because a good fitter would never put an advanced skier in a 60 flex boot they're just going to fold in half. My little brother who is like 100 pounds lighter than you skis in a 60 flex boot.

Go to another better boot fitter and get the whole shooting match, never cheap out on your boots. Make sure you get custom footbeds not trim to fits proper custom molded footbeds because without them your boots probably won't fit properly. Once you have got footbeds make sure you try on multiple pairs of different boots don't just try on one pair try on a wide range and choose which one fits best. Remember you can always ski with shitty skis and outerwear but you cannot ski with shitty boots that don't fit.

As for flex it's a bit of personal preference but if I was you I would go for something at least 90 flex probably even more if you ski hard and drop cliffs often.

trim to fits are more than adequate for your average skier in a normal 2 finger shell fit. Yes, he would benefit from some true customs, but when looking at spending $300 bucks +/- on boots, a $150 footbed isnt too logical, esp if hes still growing. Something is better than nothing, or in this case the stock shit foam inserts.

Well I'm just going to keep them I had to use my own money and got a good deal so I'll just have to do with them. They're really comfortable so that's good and I have trim to fit foots beds

constantly overpowering them, flexing them way to much, and them not supporting you. basically you will feel like you dont trust your skis and they wont actually be able to support you. good luck being a little off balance and recovering, or doing any sort of charging at all

If a new boot is comfortable, it's probably too big.

If you have finished growin there is need a reason not to go custom. Trim to fits never support the full medial arch at best they offer some mid tarsal support but will still aloe most feet to travel to there maximum pronation. This is not good in a boot. Not only will you potentially have to upsize due to the foot expanding but more importantly you are not in a strong position bio mechanically.

Don't keep them. Seriously. I had 60s last year. I'd hit small jumps and small rails and the boots would still flex in too far

In the 5 years of working at a shop we always at the least got the people into superfeet trim to fits, if not a full custom footbed. They are pretty good about offering 6 or so different shapes with different levels of support. I cant recall many instances of a trim to fit making someone pronate more in the boots and making them upsize. Maybe 3 times over the years they had legit flat feet and the trim to fit did nothing. My experience and .02 cents.

Not wanting to argue, and customs are the way to go, but superfeet TTFs are better than the stock shitbeds.

I agree they will be better then nothing it's just that they do so little that I see them as a waste of money. They for 90% of feet offer some surport but not enough to align the foot and this is what is needed. If you are using ttf's then quite probably the shop is fitting a little big. Without aligning the foot in neutral you will not be able to get the foot in the correct size. So although you may think your not upsizing you may well find that if every customer went custom that you could Get people in smaller sizes. Think about the difference you see doing a weighted and unweighted measurement. With a custom we can keep the foot at unweighted size and with a ttf the best you will get is weighted size.

I returned them today and got the salomon quest 90 boots. They are a size 28.5 and my shoe size is a 12 (Tom was asking) they are snug but I feel like they will stretch out a little is this true

They souf like a better option. Still pretty soft but your a light guy so they should work much better. The boots certainly want to feel tight right now. If you try to stand straight in them your toes should be on the front. When you bend you knees and flex the boot your toe just wants to come off the front. Everything else pretty snug all over and no real movement at all.

Thanks for all the help I have one more question can you explain to me the walk mode on the boot and also will the liner mold over time or should I heat mold it

The walk mode allows the top part of the boot to go more upright and also makes the boot feel a bit softer. So you can stand up more straight which makes it easier to walk. Remember to put the boot into ski mode when you ski though once I left my boots in walk mode and hit a jump, landed backseat and didn't have any support so I back slapped.

Yeah negro answered about the walk mode. As for the liner you could have it moulded but it won't make a huge difference in that particular liner. I would just ski in thme and see how they go. Have you checke the size though. Do your toes hit the end when you are stood up? Getting the size right is the most important Thing.

Why are you questioning the size? They are very snug and fit like a sock but should be perfect after they pack out

Just trying to help as it sounds like the shop who sold you them knows nothing about boots and because of that they are probably too big. But if they feel good I'm sure you will be good.
