Ski Exercises

Alright so I am super stoked for ski season. Aren't we all?

So to the main point of this thread, do any of you do any ski exercises? The first week on snow I'm usually not too great and I'm sore from not using those muscles in 6 months. What can I do now so the first week back on snow I'm not sore and i can get straight back to throwing down? Im open to any suggestions you guys have. What do you guys do to be better prepared physically when ski season comes?

Also I'm very aware of the ski machine things they have but I want exercises that are cheap so I can buy ski stuff instead of exercise equipment. Also i have simple exercise equip like dumbbells, exercise balls, etc.

Anything that strengthens leg muscles i.e squats, lunges, leg press, calf raises. High reps for a constant stress on the muscles like skiing a long run.

Also cycling/running will keep your legs flexed and conditoned.

Any leg lifts, but higher reps/ medium weight. You're not going to want to do straight bulking or anything, so this will really help all around. Also, just run/bike or whatever just to stay in good shape. Tramp.

do wall sits, they strengthen legs pretty well. i usually do like a minute starting off, but get more as it gets closer to season. I really need to strengthen up, had a close call almost tearing my ACl on my backyard set up after not using it for a few months. now im more motivated to get in a little better shape for the season

Missed all of last season because I had acl surgery last November. I've been biking at least 40 miles a week on my single speed getting ready. I'm so beyond stoked.

Something that I like to focus on along with leg strength is core strength, and flexibility. After every workout you do just throw in 15 minutes of core exercises and stretching. The core exercises help with balance and control while skiing, and the stretching makes it so that if you eat shit while trying a new trick (which I do most of the time), you run a lesser risk of pulling a muscle or tearing something.

slack lining or anything that improves balance. This is very important for skiing.

Tramping. I've heard that its 3x better for you than running and it will improve air awareness

In terms of lifting, pretty much everything. 5 days a week is what I do

I also hit tramps whenever I can and "exercise" air awareness

Also, I have this balance board thing that apparently I bought a long time back before I even started skiing. I use that a lot because I imagine that it could help with rails.

Weighted squats on bosu balls, one leg dead lifts, box jumps, box squats, bike and core stuff.

I don't have a slack line. But if I took a big corrugated pipe and threw my skis on and got on it and started playing around on it would that do the trick for balance?

Gonna echo everybody else and say that's just about getting strong core and legs, then working on your endurance. I've noticed since I started doing plyo stuff that I am a bit better with popping. (although, it could just be the fact that my confidence went up cuz all the cougars started digging my ab swag)
