trying to be strong come ski season, i'm not a jock by any means but id like to be able to hit the ground running with a strong core and strong legs for the winter. i tried googling some stuff without much success. i already do a fair share of cardio i run anywhere from 5-10 miles 3-4 times a week. i've never been to a gym before so the more detailed you can be the better. thanks!
gnar_whaldo a lot of lifting and eat a lot of protein
Somewhat yes, but carbs are important too. Protein is mostly just good to eat late in the day, and the healthiest sources are nuts legumes etc. Early in the day, especially before and during workouts, carbs are best. Eat carbs about a half hour before any workout and then again every hour or two during your workout.
But seriously, just do calisthenics (push ups, squats etc). You don't need any weights unless you want to get big. Sign up for some yoga classes, great way to improve your flexibility and meet people. Just don't turn into those douche bags that start stretching and doing yoga poses on a subway, on a bus, in a McDonalds, in the office, on an airplane, on a crowded sidewalk, in the middle of a hiking trail where people are walking, while hanging out with friends who don't want to see how flexible you are because you are obviously making a grab for attention, etc....
Anything in life worth doing is worth overdoing. Moderation is for cowards.
