Volkl one or Volkl Shiro

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a new pow ski this year. I'm a volkl loyal guy, all my skis are volkl in my quiver - park, all mountain, pow. So I'm not really willing to try the new S7 or the Pollards or whatever. Has anyone here rode the Shiros and the Ones? I'm leaning more towards the ones as I like the shape and turn radius a little better. Plus it looks like a better backcountry freestyle ski. But I would like to know if anyone has rode either one, what you liked and disliked and possibly if you are a volkl loyal guy like myself. As we know volkls are stiff and heavy, but I'm a big cat and that's why I like them. Let me know what you all think and thanks in advance!

The Shiro is generally more chargy than the One. I love the Shiros, fantastic ski. They can be used for freestyle, and many pros used them before Volkl playful free ride series came out. They are stiffer, more directional, a little wider, and stiffer than the Ones. No taper either. Probably a little better in pow, but they are both pretty comparable. I would go Shiro if you are more of a fall line skier, and go One if you like to play around more.

Personally I'm a Shiro fan just because it can charge and is more stable at high speeds.

You say you want a "freestyle" pow ski then go with the ONE. Definitely softer and is going to be more playful off BC kickers. There's a lot less taper in the ONE so it will be a lot more capable of riding out switch as well.

What about riding in some tighter trees? I live in CO, but I'll be moving to Washington and skiing in the steeper cascades, with deeper snow packs and a heavier snow.

ones will be super easy thru the trees cos of the rocker, pivoty.

What about skiing trees with the shiros? There's 4 different options for size. I'm guessing I would be between 183 and 190-something being that I'm 6 foot even and 190 lbs. Anyone rode the shiro extensively or the two?

the two is the same construction as the one but fatter. i took a pair of twos out for some super late season (Ontario) slush skiing and they were a ton of fun. really maneuverable and easy to chuck sideways when needed.

if you're looking for a dedicated pow ski, the two should be on your radar. if you're not charging then the shiro probably isn't going to be the ski for you.

I have the shiro as my pow ski and it does great. Its stiff so butters aren't amazing on it but it's a small trade off for how stable they are when you need to ride out a sketchy line. They're very easy to get from edge to edge for their width. My only gripe is that riding switch on them is a task. If you want more freestyle I'd go with the two, it's more symmetrical and suited for bc freestyle if that's you're thing.

Shiro because Ian Macintosh rides them and he's a better skier than you.
