Construction help of roller skis for summer ramp sesh
i have contacted 2x4 sports the only company i know that makes them asking if i could buy a set from them and haven't gotten a reply so I'm pretty set on making my own i have two sets of skis I'm willing to chop up. I'm pretty good at fabricating but this design part has gotten me kinda confused, i know they use 2 roller blade wheels on each end with 1 skateboard wheel in front of the binding and 1 behind. now im trying to wrap my mind around how to get them to turn maybe someone that has riden a pare can enlighten me. now as far as the axel for the wheels is where i am lost, i know aluminum is the metal i want to use to keep swing weight down but I'm lost of how exactly to make the brackets. any input is much appreciated i know I'm not the only one that wants a pair.
I'm not too familiar with the woodward rollerskis but my dad built several prototype XC rollerskis for Atomic back in the 80's.
Turning might be kind of difficult to get right, but you may be able to do it by having some of the wheels offset from the others. Like have 2 main wheels in the tip and tail, then have some smaller wheels on the side underfoot, so if you put it on edge you wouldn't just fall over. Getting them to run straight with this design might be a challenge though.
As for structure, what my dad did was take the midsection of some old skis and attach supports to the front and back. This worked for xc but might be a little wierd for downhill. If you have some really wide urban skis those might work but it may be better to just start with a fresh plank of wood.
The front and rear rollerblade wheels are running parallel to the sidecut of the skis, so when you angulate the ski it will turn. That should give you a solid idea of how to make the brackets to.
