ADHD - Conerta

clinically diagnosed with adhd and it's my first day on it, in school.

Basically made this thread to see other's that take meds for add/adhd and how it effects them, and their stories of taking meds. I personally feel, just normal i guess, not hyper-active at all and I can finally focus and it feels great.

Download-My-AppsI believe they are more or less the same, one is slow release where as the other is fast. Ritalin you might have a crash.


Shit, I mean I had a crash with Concerta at the end of the day after the first 2 days, same with Ritalin

Was on concerta for a while. made me feel like a total zombie, switched to biphentin. i could focus really well, but it made me super duper depressed whenever i came off it and when i was on it i had am irrational fear of conversation. switched to vyvanse a few days ago, so far ive had regular side effects (slight decrease in appetite and hour of sleep) but experiencing total and effortless focus on any task, without any sort of zonbie feeling or depressive crash.

Addition, basically I only got a 7 day supply of Concerta out of pocket payed, because insurance wouldn't approve it fast. Then we realized that school is almost up and we need to look at something to see if there's a change, so hopefully if I do keep up taking these meds, I can eventually go back to Concerta

They are not the same thing with a different name. Concerta is extended release methylphenidate, and Ritalin is instant release methylphenidate. 2 different drugs with the same active chemical.

Saying this and then I'm done, Ritalin can come in xr form as well so you're wrong on that. Adderall and Ritalin do have different things in them but that's like saying Grey Goose and Jack Daniels are two totally different things, technically they are, but both will still get you drunk, same goes for the pills they do the same thing just two different ways one isn't better than the other.

The end goal is the same, and in many people it should be similar, but in practice, most people react better to one over the other. They both affect different neurotransmitters and act in different manners. The alcohol analogy is a bit of an oversimplification. I get what you are saying,but this is more to encourage people looking for the right dose that one may work better for them. Beyond that, I personally notice a huge difference between generics of the same dose for adderall xr. Some might, some might not. On paper, the end goal may nbe the same, but for some, the difference is night and day.

Ritalin has been around for a long time and has been tested so many times. All you medical opinions about brain function and the correlation to ADHD pills is irrelevant because most of you just read a biased article on the web and immediately think you have a doctorate in neuroscience

As someone who studies this stuff, I can't resist - reading this thread hurt my brain too badly.

Both Ritalin and Concerta are trade names for methylphenidate. Methylphenidate is the name of the compound (the generic name), and different companies make pills that have methylphenidate as the active ingredient. Ritalin/concerta both are 'the same drug' and 'have the same mechanism' - delivering molecules of methylphenidate to brain.

The only difference is how slowly methylphenidate is released/absorbed into the blood. Think of it like the difference between chugging a beer on a full stomach vs empty.

Adderall is a different drug altogether - amphetamine salts - that works through a similar, but not the same, mechanism.

I know it sounds dumb. I am well aware that they are the same chemical compound. So I wouldn't believe me. But from someone who has used a lot of concerta, and a lot of Ritalin. I noticed concerta made me

Fatigued
Foggy
Depressed
Antisocial
Emotionless
Boring
Moody

While Ritalin did not seem to do this all too much.

Adderall is better than both IMO
