Throwing things

I need help, i cant get the balls to try many new things i'm confident when i finally do try things but it usually takes a long time to work up to (i mean long) drugs aren't an option how did you overcome it?

Be young and stupid, and say yes when your stepbrother asks to shoot you with a paintball gun while you just stand and take it. Then always fondly remember the time you were shot many times with a paintball gun, remember how much that fucking hurt? And as if you just fucking stood there, like a champ, you got this. Works for me. Or just recall some memory you already have of something extremely painful, the pain didn't last that long did it? Nah its all good.

but for serious, I have the exact same problem. I'm nearly 28, I started skiing park 3 years ago. I ski 1 week a year. I literally just got back from 10 days in whistler yesterday. On day 1 I was so stoked to be skiing after a year of not skiing, I was spinning (360's mostly, some 180's) off the big jumps in whistler. I had landed maybe 2 or 3 540's before.
then o day 2 snow came, we hit the trees and in-bounds off-piste for a few days, I landed my first cork 360. all good. then the sun came out and everything was tracked out by then, we went back to the park for the last 3 days of my trip.

My confidence was gone, the landings were super hard and I just shifty'd everything for 2 days. I under-rotated a cork 3 on the last jump in the terrain garden on blackcomb. bruises everywhere. So embarrassing. I could feel my balls shriveling up and then I started knuckling everything.

On the last day the sun came out. Things softened up a little, but the blackcomb park was still running fast.

For some reason I just started spinning the big line, 540 double safety, big slow 3's and 1's, 720's on the tranny half way down, spins over the hip....
I basically never hit rails either and managed to front 270 off one of those long thin tubes.
Now, nothing here is particularly inspiring, trick-wise. But it was good for me as I hardly ski, and all of a sudden I was in my little zone and it was all easy. Now I just want to go back, hit bigger kickers, slow it all down, go deeper etc etc etc, because I proved to myself that I can do it, and 70% of park is confidence I'd say.

What I learned:
On a day when you're feeling comfortable in the park - not invincible (because you wont feel that) just comfortable - spin a bigger kicker than you have before. Go fast and don't knuckle. At first just get used to the kicker, dial in the speed and straight air it a few times, and then spin it.

Factors which helped me:

Last day of holiday
Kodak confidence (people filming)
Riding with buddies
Sun was shining
Park was quiet
My boots didn't hurt

So, this was super long - anyway.... hope something helps.

Im pretty much the same. What I do is when I am standing at the top of the rail/jump line, I just tell myself, "Whats the worst that can happen?" Then I think about all of those little kids out there that are like insanely good. aka, Aspen Spora and how they can THROW DOWN at like 12. It basically guilts me into trying new tricks.

I had the same problem for years and have this year finally managed to start progressing. You need to get used to the jump by just hitting it straight a few times until you feel confident in the air and are landing nicely. unfortunately after that it takes a bit of manning up and trying to spin it, but you need to think that as long as you commit to the trick, even if you don't land it, you won't get hurt. I found that when i properly committed to it once and even if i bailed, the adrenaline rush from actually committing inspired me to get up and hit it again as you can feel the difference in a proper attempt at trying to spin a 3 as opposed to just aimlessly hucking it and crashing out and the more you try the more comfortable you will feel in air.

For help with actually manning up and committing try riding with a group of friends, helps if they are stronger skiers than you, and all drop in quickly so you have to drop and have less time to think yourself out of doing it.
