In reality, the phrases are interchangeable. Everyone calls rodeos flatspins, barely anyone does real "flat spins" example:

(3rd trick around 6 sec)


he never goes inverted, meaning its a flat spin.


BUT everyone calls wackflips/rodeo 3s "flat 3s" so like I said, its interchangeable.

I consider both rodeos, flatspin is more of a sideflip than set back (as andreas does). If anything, TJ is closer to doing a flatspin in my opinion.

I would say theyre the other way around, that first one he doesnt really go inverted and andreas is definitely a rodeo.


As i said before, theyre interchangeable, everyone says it differently.

the word flatspin makes it less of a flip and more of a spin. TJ's "rodeo" never goes upside down and his feet never go above his head, while andreas' is clearly more flippy and less spinny. If a flatspin and a rodeo are different then I agree with pussyfooter, the rodeo is the more flippy one and the flatspin is more spinny.

As Heath already said, people pretty much just say whatever they want nowadays. However....a rodeo is an inverted trick. A flatspin is not.

Rodeo 5, for example, feels like a backflip/180 kind of throw to make it happen. You see the landing once the sky flips by.

Flat 5 feels like sitting in a chair and reaching around your body for the grab. You aren't inverted, and you turn your head level to spot the landing.

Watch Tom Wallisch throw huge flat 5's in Turbo and tell me you can't tell the difference, his are perfect.

I think that the difference between rodeo and flat spin is that a flat spin is set back, a rodeo u set forward and up, like u set the direction of bio but set ur hips toward the sky versus in bio u set everything down. Just my opinion

rodeos are set back, mistys are set foward, flatspins are just flat (kind of in between rodeos and mistys)

this is how i learned to do flatspins, i don`t know if im setting back or foward, it just feels like a 360 with my legs in front of me

Notice the orientation of the skis to the ground. A rodeo is like lying on your back and spinning on the ground and a flat spin is like lying on your side and spinning on the ground.

the way the skis move doesnt affect the trick, those two videos are flatspins with diferent grabs ( when wallisch does a bow and arrow, his skis are also like this || )
rodeo = feet go over your head
flatspin = feet dont go over your head
