so he bought the team when he was 9?

obviously different times in terms of "having to grow up" and kids having no time for being kids, but he bought the team in 1963.

Vikings sign cassel to a 2 year deal 10 mil I believe, I like it, though they need to find a franchise QB.

Jared Allen won't return, he's been awesome to have on the Vikings and I hope he gets a chance to play for a contending team, it'd even be interesting to see him as a Packer, though I don't think the Packers would spend the money.

Sign DE Everson Griffen basically to replace Allen, 42.5 mil, 20 mil guaranteed , this one is tough he has played a lot but never as the main guy, now he will be the guy and has to put up the numbers 10+ sacks a season for that kind of money. I guess they paid so much because they felt like he was going to get paid by other teams....he has made plays, now he just needs to make a few more.


It's going to be an interesting draft for the vikes, I hope they move down, aquire picks, focus on defense. Line backers/Corner being key spots.

We will finish worst int he NFC North probably with a record of 5 - 11

Not in my life time, and I'm 24....closest I've had to a franchise QB was Daunte Cullpepper.

It sucks to suck lol....my dad has been cheering for them his whole life, watched 4 superbowl losses...its basically his dream to see them win it, I bet he dies before they win. We joke about that all the time.

Well you have a good recieving group, the best RB in football, a decent D, really the only thing between being a viable threat is not having a QB. Must suck to see your neighbor's, the Packers, who have had like 3 starting qb's in the last 35 years and a few superbowls. It baffles me how some teams just can not find that QB, the Raiders, Bucs, Bill's since Kelly, the dolphins since Marino. Even when some teams have an off year like the steelers or giants, they know that they can sill be viable very quickly.

Must suck to suck.

The packer/vikings rivalry is big where I work and live...I'm right on the mississippi so I work with plenty of wisconsin folks who worship the packers (then again I'm just jealous the vikings can't be like them)....it really does suck to see the vikes struggle and the packers have this string of great years.

and all those things are great, but the vikings have proven it time and time again you can't win if you don't have a competent signal caller. I've gotten to see Randy Moss and Adrian Peterson play but yet not a Superbowl appearance since 1977 lol.

Who knows it could happen some day, but I just stick to being a fan of football in general.

Never had a franchise QB as far as I know.

We should have had superbowls in 1998 and 2009 but the Vikings best play is absolutely blowing it in the last 5 minutes of the game.

Idk the terms but Albert is def better than average. Plus he has balls plays angry and is quick to defend/pick up the skill guys

Yea I was actually surprised that they got him. I am happy with that pickup. They tried to trade for him last season, and now they got him for free, in regard to giving up a player for him.




Also, The Miami Dolphins have traded offensive tackle Jonathan Martin to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for an undisclosed draft choice. He is now with his former coach from College. I hope he does well there and has a good career from here on out.

Adam Schefter again on Demarcus Ware

Former Cowboys DE DeMarcuus Ware will be flying to Denver today to visit the Broncos, per source.

One AFC West official who tried to get DeMarcus Ware to visit his city said he was told "you're not going to like where he winds up."


I declare shenanigans. At least they will be cap-locked for a while. Plus, they are losing Decker and DRC. But Ware, Talib, and Ward are not a bad defensive combination. Still do not think they can win it all with Manning and Welker in the playoffs. Not enough "clutch" play from them.

but big props to him for doing whatever it takes, i know hes not "gm" but look at what hes brought in, Welker, Julius Thomas, Manning, Ward, Ware, and Talib. Thats some quality free agency pick ups. See raiders?

Denver making some scary moves. Maybe they think they can get a decent enough receiver in the draft. Talib banging with bowe twice a year should be fun to watching. 'Hawks' fans living up to the least knowledge fan base label but at least they don't stick around long

Its funny how everyone just pretends we either didn't win the superbowl, or won on some fluke. All we did was prove we were the best team in the nfl, and the only team that proved it was close were the 49ers. To me the Broncos, or any afc team, are not a real threat to the hawks or niners.

Denver is shooting themselves in the foot over the long run though. Both A and J Thomas, Welker, Von Miller, and Tamme come off the books next year. They can only franchise one. It will be tough to resign them.

J and D Thomas will both command a LOT of attention in the offseason. They will have trouble signing both to a decent contract even with pay cuts. I will be shocked if they can keep either to be honest.

miller, d thomas will easily demand 10+ millions per year for 4-6 years.

their starting RT is a free agent next year too. j thomas might get something close to what graham gets.

in 2015, with manning, ware, talib, clady, vasquez on the roster, they will have close to 60 million wrapped up in those guys alone. resigning miller and d thomas would add another 20.

seriously cant see it happening.


and FA signings are problematic for a lot of reasons. one of them is the fact that it kind of depreciates homegrown talent and/or gives them the leverage in contract talks. i mean, how in the world will miller settle for anything less than ware?

furthermore, what if that guy cant play/is injured/just sucks for some reason (scheme) or the other? this can really divide a locker room. i am actually impressed that the seahawks were able to make harvins 10 million salary a non-story.

so many important contributors on that team didnt even earn a third of that, that gotta be tough.

now for denver, the situation is the same. knighton played really well, but will earn around 2 million. now they put this ware guy next to him who earns 5 times as much. cant work.

its so tough to win the superbowl with this single-game play off thingy, so maybe they will go to salary-cap-hell for nothing

really dont like these signings in terms of long term stability. i mean i guess theyre just gunning for it in the next two years. manning only has a year left, if that. still i am much more afraid of the 49ers or panthers than denver. hawks match up well with them.

i disagree. for maybe a million less per year, it wouldve been nice to see him in a chargers uniform. he has good hands, is quick AND fast.

quality pickup by the lions.

now that i think about it i think they got him for cheap

i think he fits pretty well in detroit. as long as stafford takes care of the ball that offense is pretty potent.

really surprised at the revis signing. not the typical way of doing business in new england. apparently talibs character and injury history really scared them off (then again, his contract is almost 10 mill per year for 6 years, so actually revis comes at a reasonable price).

obviously, before all these thingies, i was in favor of retaining talib. but we arent in the building, we dont know how the negotiating went, we dont know what the coaches and conditioning department think of him.

i think they will try to work out a longer contract with revis somewhere down the line but i wouldnt be surprised if this is really just a one year thing.



generally, i thought they were confident in letting talib go since they have a legit no1 corner in dennard at least for this year. arrington is capable in the slot and ryan was among the best players on this squad late in the season. now i am curious how belichick will use revis, he will get the best out of him.

You see him play Jimmy Graham? Then play Steve Smith? Right. Tell me that isnt injury related. And the Patriots are hesitant to take on more character questions when they have had Dennard (serving 60 day sentence) and Hernandez in legal trouble.

Not sure what you are trying to say here.

But obviously money played a role in it. It plays a role in almost EVERY signing rational. It is a business. Players cannot treat it any differently because the teams will not.

they couldnt afford him, every team that could afford him wanted him, the team that could afford to pay the most got him. if you want to pretend hes not as good as he is just bc you lost him then thats up to you but nobody in the league is scared of his 'hip' injury and only one team is pretending to be and thats the team that lost him

Obviously. That was never in doubt. The entire league knew that the Patriots could not offer him what other teams did but they hoped they could figure something out. Did his injury have a part in the hesitation? Yes. He has never played a full season.

Do you understand how free agency works? Each team has until the deadline to solely negotiate with their teams own free agents. After the deadline, any team can negotiate with any free agent.

Before you spew off saying the Patriots didnt even try, do some research, then come back and talk.

As you can see, they attempted to negotiate with Talib, did not meet his demands, were hesitant to meet them, therefore he walked.

Because they could not offer him the same deal as Revis?

Your logic is flawed. He wanted something they were hesitant to offer. Teams do not have to be under the salary cap until day 1 of the season. Therefore, they have an ENTIRE OFFSEASON to figure out how to renegotiate other deals (like the Patriots will try with Wilfork) to try to fit the new contracts in.
