Xgames big air the last two years have been dominated by Henrik Harlaut with his nose and tail butter doubles and triples.I dont know if im the only one, but i dont think the nose and tail butter doubles and triples look nearly as cool as like a regular double with a crazy grab (vincent gagnier). I feel like since he is the only one that does them, the judges reward him a whole lot. Maybe they think buttering adds alot style wise, but i dont. Any thoughts?
have you ever tried a nose butter into cork spin? pretty difficult, do it into a double. even harder, way harder than a normal double, maybe thats why its dominated by henrik? he is the only one that can do these tricks well and consistently? take it to triple, straight insane. You might not think it looks cooler but thats just like your opinion man, can't argue with how technically difficult it is.
While Henrik is one of the most bad ass skiers in history i think some of his butter are just quick 1's before the lip. A few times at X games I saw him apply some real pressure to the tips (or tails) but most of the time it seemed pretty mellow.
i honestly think the judges over reward butters, and would have rather seen gagnier win since his style was insane (not to say henrik's wasn't good). A dub 14 screamen seamen while holding the grab until you land basically in my opinion is more stylish than a nose butter tripple
I've kinda been thinking something similar. Don't get me wrong, I love watching Henrik's Butters and think that he deserved the win, but is it going to get to the point where you've got to butter on every jump to win comps? I hope not.
and that "spin a 180 before you leave the ground" is fucking crazy. Lets see you butter a 180 on the lip of a 60+ foot jump into a triple. oh wait you cant… have you ever tried buttering off a jump. Its fucking hard!!!
I would disagree a little bit. Yes, Henrik has been doing them a while, but no one else has. Hatviet is the only one that has done one (that I have seen, I could be wrong) and it was this year. They aren't progressive to him anymore, but the nose butter double is way progressive to the rest of the comp scene.
Not trying to downplay the progressive-ness but theres definitely others that have done them. I'm pretty sure C Van, Andreas, Bobby, Goepper, Parker, Luca T and probably a half dozen europeans we've never heard of have all done them. I think Russ may have even tried one on the last jump at X but it was tough to tell with the camera angle.
all i have to say is that if butter are so easy, why is henrik the only one doing them STILL a whole year after all of the competitors saw how highly they got scored? surely if they were THAT easy one of them would have tried to master the butter double or triple for a nearly guaranteed podium???
Have ever tried to butter off a large jump? It's pretty fucking sketchy, you need to be pretty goddamn confident in yourself to do that especially with doubles, and triples are just fucked. I can't even fathom doing a switch butter. He deserved to win. Vinne's tricks were incredible too but there's no doubt Henrik earned that.
