Im a lifty at my local resort and crazy shit happens every day. I once had a parents leash they put on their kid get tangled to the chair and drag the kid into the air, it was pretty fucked. Lets here some of your stories...

a kid fell about 30 feet off the lift on my 2nd day as a lifty. i hit the stop button and had to do a lot of paperwork because of it. kid broke his hip and they brought in the helicopter...

and he was on the lift with an instructor

Instructor here. We put on a race for the kids in our program at the end of the year. One of the kid's I coached had an crazy pregnant mother. This lady was screaming and cheering her kid on, and her water broke. She wouldn't leave the run until her kid finished eating his post racer burger, and then complained about ruining her pants. Rich people are nuts, she shouldn't have been up there in the first place.

Also:
Got hit by an out of control snowboarder in font of my class. Ended up getting a TBI with optic nerve damage. Kids love seeing their instructor hit.

i had no idea just how insanely stupid and hard to manage kids can be until i started instructing. 2 years in and i still haven't had any injuries, but god damn do they get reckless if you aren't constantly monitoring what they do. i had one kid who was skiing for her second time, could control speed and stop no problem and turn a bit, but on the last run of the lesson she decided fuck that shit and pointed it straight down and ran through 2 layers of fencing without even trying to stop or fall (even after we practiced how to fall if you get going too fast). the little fucker though it was hilarious too, i literally had to explain to her how bad of an idea that was. some kids are terrified the whole time and thats its own challenge but others just do not understand consequences and dangerous situations.

Fellow lifty here, I've had two pretty funny moments this year:
1: I was working the bottom of my lift by myself on a slow day when this old guy (likes in his 60's orsomething) comes up to get on, as I am getting ready to bump him he says, and I shit you not "your beard is looking pretty sticky, is it from eating out your girlfriend?" So obviously I'm just standing there like WTF and laughing my ass off. The next time he comes to the lift he says "Not that she's complaining," that was the last I saw of him.
2: Same lift, another slow day. I see a group of gapers coming down the black diamond next to the lift (note, I work in mn at a hill with 300 feet of vertical, so this isn't anything crazy) and the first one does a total yard sale but is fine. Next a snowboarder chick makes it down fine and then there was this last guy who is just straightlining it to the trees. I though for sure he was gunna smack hard but then catches his ski on something and just tomahawks right at the base of the hill. Ended up cutting his neck and (I think) needing stitches.

Worked in rentals and as part of a park crew. I'v seen 2 crazy things happen.

First was when I was working park crew. As I was raking a takeoff, I saw this one chick head for our biggest jump (Was about a 50 footer, it was a small hill) Interested in what she'd do I kept watching. Right as she hits it, she hucks a backflip....she made it 180 degrees, then dropped straight on her head. (yes she did break her neck, but recovered)

Second crazy thing happened when I was on the lift. In the chair ahead of me was a mom with a kid on her lap (maybe 4-5) and 3 kids beside her, about 3/4 of the way up the lift, the mom completely forgets about the 4yr or something because he slides right off her lap, under the bar and would have fallen off the lift (30-40 feet) if he hadn't spread his arms and landed in between his moms skis. This wasn't even the craziest part, the craziest part was after the liftty saw what was happening, they panicked and stopped..yes stopped the lift. After what seems like forever, the mom finally is able to get a hold of this kid and bring him back onto her lap, and the liftty finally started the lift up again.

Today. Like literally today. 19 year old chick decides to snowboard sans lesson. Gives up decides to place butt on board and ride it as a sled. Hits tree. Bends board. Ambulance arrives.....

I worked for keystone as a bakery delivery driver it wasn't too bad. just got to eat pastries and drive a truck around. Sucked only due to 2 things: co-workers only speak spanish and you had to get to work at 4 am.

I have been hit in the nads catching kids who were practicing stopping.
I have had four asians run into me at the exact same time while i was instructing, seriously they were holding hands down the hill and just took me with them.
I have been swarmed by an entire bus of four to six year olds because i had a ball in my hand and was playing child control.

this was all in one year of ski instructing.

I have been a lifty for four years. Saw a dead guy in the tobo, tons of KO's from shoveling in the portal/pit, sex in gondola cabins, had some drunk cougar flash her tits at me, women not wearing underwear while riding up the chair in the summer.

thats some funny shit. to add another story one time wasnt paying any attention went to load a chair right as it was swinging by with his kid and before I could even stop the lift I had a fat idiot dad and his kid flying straight into me and the best part is the asshole then tried to blame me for not stopping the lift for them.

Many times I've shat myself when crazy, out of control asians who don't think they need lessons come flying down the bunny hill taking kids out and slamming into fences when I've been trying to teach a lesson..

Just 2 weeks ago the ticket office caught fire and we were not aloud to let anybody down the hill for 30 mins until the fire fighters had deemed it safe

UR a dipshit.  If you were a good lift operator(who was fucking paying attention) you would have stopped the lift in time.  The dad should have nut shot you when he ran into you.

I saw a kid on one of those sit down skis fall like 40 feet off a lift. The seat took most of the impact so he was ok

instructing kids generally sucks ass. you get the off day where its fun and rewarding but mostly its stressful and shitty.

i did consecutive week lessons and was stuck with a group of 6 five to seven year-old kids, 5 of which were pretty solid skiiers and good kids. i had one who was minorly retarded. not retarded enough to not be able to ski, but retarded enough to be annoying as FUCK. kid would not stop talking about halo. every lift ride up i would have to ride with him and he would repeat, on loop "BAM SHOOT THOSE GRUNTS IN THE BALLS! *grunt squeal noise* BAHAHA." Then most of the time on the way down i'd be holding his tips together in a pizza skiing switch because the kid had no concept of slowing down by using edges or turning, while the other kids were rippin

A lift operators job is to look out for people not paying attention.  We no surprise to most of us, they(people) dont always pay attention!  Thats why they pay a low wage to some lacky like you to stop the lift in the event of this situation like this.  And you failed!!!! hahahaha.
