Why the massive hate for no poles?

I've seen two facebook debates cropping up about no poles -

And frankly I don't see the big problem. Sure you might not like someone's style if they don't use poles, but that doesn't make them a terrible skier.

Why do skiers hate people without poles so much? What are we afraid of?

I really dont get the issue. Skiing is a creative enterprise and an expression of how we see the sport. My poles are adjustable but dont shrink nearly enough so they feel awkward and dangerous ripping t to b switch. Ski how you want to ski. Face it, youre skiing for you and no one else. yeah some kids like back seat because they dont remember the fundamental reason for poles is to push on flats(or you can just skate) and to keep your hands out in front. I have no problem slaying anything with or without my hand sticks and staying in control.

TL;DR Just go skiing and stop acting like others choices affect you.

i tried this once. i looked stupid and i didn't know what to do with the poles. lolz were had though.

you're all just used to seeing poles in skiers hands, if no one ever used poles you wouldn't think twice about it.

just gotta learn how to hold them poles and the rope.

i personally like poles for skiing the woods, bumps, and trails on the way to the park. i also take a page out of candide's book and pole plant sometimes. poles just make sense for skiing in general. its also easier to push around on the flats, etc..

I pretty much cruise without poles anywhere now, except for deep powder, even then I don't really use my poles for much of anything.

Just do what is comfortable and what you like. Dont change up your style because someone else doesnt like it. Personally i mostly use poles but on the days i dont theres really not much difference...we all use poles that are really short anyways..they dont really serve a purpose other than for looks.

im so used to no poles that when i see people with poles in the park i think it looks weird and all i see is their poles dangling around.

It's one dude, and yeah he dresses like a tard but IMO kills it and has good style. Music is bad too, maybe I had the wrong choice of video, I could see how Frankie would make a bad impression a=on people outside blading. Better?

Very few people can actually pull off the no poles look and those people are generally extremely good park skiers. 99% of the rest of us look like absolute crap without poles. But hey its up to you if you want to look like a total idiot on the slopes i dont give a fuck.

NS making fun of how people look? Your idol henrik isn't exactly looking too good these days and people here buy jiberish and other shit thats way too tall for them. wearing baggy stuff on the hills trying to look gangster and then making fun of some black guy for the way he dresses when there's barely any black guys, or even slightly gangster guys in skiing? and no first drop doesnt count.

Just a sign that park skiing is growing up. We have our own fads/trends just like the knuckle dragfags and every other action sport. Shit snowboarding has one footing, no footing, skateboard style, gangster, hesh..... its all a cycle. Hell kids skateboarding are back with penny boards and tiny ass Vans shoes. Soon enough i think were gonna see giant DVS, and DC skate shoes make a comeback.

Look back around 2008/2009 when idea was out ( i think its around then), and Pep and Andy were both rocking no poles at the X-Games. It caused a huge shit show and people were fighting about it. Same shit now. The cycle has just turned back. Same for camo outerwear, and jean snowpants.

Its all go around come around bullshit and I have no idea why people take it so seriously.

i wear poles, i can grab tricks without needing to drop poles off, and cant get enough of it how ridicilously stupid people look when they're standing at the top of the jump line without poles, argh.. (just coz b&e does it doesent mean you have to)

These are not real answers. This is what ignorant close minded people say when they dont have enough brain power to come up with a real answer. Some one please give me a good reason as to why you are holding 30in pointy sticks while you are jumping around in a park.

broken thumbs
getting stabbed
getting a grip to the face
cold hands
harder grabs
another stupid thing to carry
harder to do high fives

i love no poles... i will agree that many who ditch their poles will flail more but if you ski no poles as your regular deal it becomes as natural feeling (and thus hopefully looking..) as poles feel/look. I would still grab poles to rip serious trees or bumps. But I mostly lap park so why have something extra to tangle myself up in.

I never ski with poles anymore unless its a powder day. Whenever I ski park sans poles it feels so much smoother and its way more fun. Now I feel like if i do use poles I'm taking skiing way too seriously.

OH, and skiing is supposed to be fun right? Then who cares if someone has a good time with or without poles.
