I have a horrible fear of jumps. I just hate them because of how afraid I am of them. Growing up out East I ski probably 97% rails so I'm not used to jumps either. Does anyone have any tips or get hyped up for jumps some way?

I used to be afraid too, untill i just hit one (knuckled mad hard)

Haha, it sounds really dumb, but I actually pump myself up by talking out loud to myself as I approach the jump. Saying stuff like `you got this` over and over out loud gets the adrenaline flowing and you forget about your anxiety.

Sure you look kinda weird, but whatever works! Listening to music helps too.

You throw your nuts over your shoulder and send it. Do you pop correctly when you hit them? Not popping will make you feel out of control in midair.

try to enjoy the scared feeling....like an adrenaline rush, im scared yet i like the feeling of scaring myself. Make sense at all?

also the biggest thing for me learning jumps was telling myself if i hit it like a pussy then im gonna get hurt knuckling. I dont knuckle anymore.

And repetition. I used to flail off every jump a year or 2 ago and now im comfortable in the air and not freaked out. Be patient it will come

I have the opposite problem as OP, I love jumping and am totally comfortable with it but always bitch out when trying new tricks on rails

any tips? or is it just inevitable that a person has a preference for either jumps or rails

jumps are all about knowing the speed and pop . follow someone who has the speed on lock and just feel out how much you need to pop. orrrr just do some drugs and send it

every time i'm scared of a jump, it takes me a few mins to get psyched up with some minutes and forget that my balls are crawling up my ass. then i hit it and find that it wasn't that big after all and i can session that jump forever with no fear. then again it depends how big you go, but as long as i get the first hit done i'm not usually too scared. Way more scared of sketchy landing cliffs, cos i always know i won't land them and have a chance to fuck up bad...

I don't know if this will help you but it helped me:
My first year skiing I was horrified hitting jumps. One of my friends is a good skier and he asked "Why aren't you listing to music?" I put some earbuds into my phone, and started listening to some tones. I started getting pumped up so I hit every jump in the park.
Try listening to rap, dance, or dubstep because it will "pump you up."

I'm looking for more of like a way to overcome fear, my problem isn't the tricks, I can 3, 5, rodeo 5, backie, switch 3 /claim I just would like a way to get hyped

You gotta learn how to embrace the fear, feed off of it. If I got hurt or really got a jump sketchy, yes I am scared shitless to do it again, but like many say, create an awesome playlist with beats to your choice and when a good one comes up and the moment feels right, get back on your skis and man up and hit it. Progress slowly and SMARTLY. It takes time and lots of confidence. Hope this helps!

My soccer coach used to say "the person thatgoes in weaker will get hurt" (cuz im a goaly and its a physical postion) but the same is true for jumps, if you hit it while youre really timid, youll knuck, but if you hit it with some meaning then you should be just fine.

just watch people hit them, take note how fast they go in. if you chicken out, you'll case it. it'll hurt. stay persistent and ultimately you'll realize that you'll get hurt more by casing jumps than falling on the landing (if u even were to fall)

I had the same issue as you OP, still do sometimes with bigger jumps. Everyone else has it right, music and watching others really helps. Do you ski with other people?
