Full tilts don't flex

I have last years Tom Wallisch Full Tilts. Earlier I was fooling around with them, I pushed forward on the top of the boot when they were fully buckled and the didn't flex nearly as much as I thought they would. What's my issue?

You could have a too stiff tongue for your weight, also if you just bought them give them a little bit to get worked in before you make any changes, i find my twalls perfect

Get softer tongues and also to be brutally honest full tilts are dope and all but the flexing shit is sorta a gimmick

if you can't flex full tilts, you might have trouble turning on ice skates

Check if the tongues are centered when the boots are buckled. Sometimes the tongue gets sideways and the flex becomes really weird on Fulltilts.

Are you standing in your ski boot trying to flex it, or are you literally just pushing on it with your hands?

Flex isn't about how good of a skier you are or what kind of skiing you do. It is primarily based on your weight and ankle flexibility.

Next time you have a boot issue, we made a boot-fitting thread so please put your questions there and be sure to read through it, since we have answered this question already. It will be a good resource for you to use down the road.

I maxed out the flex of my Full Tilts last season (#10 tongue, world cup booster strap) and could still fold them on half while turning...

Ankle flexibility is a real huge factor. I'm 220, but my ankle felxibility is non-existant. The cool thing about this is I can generally get the performance I am looking foe in a softer(cheaper) boot. Always nice when you go to the fitter with a 700 dollar budget and walk out with a 400 dollar boot.

like the nerdy kid said, sounds like you're maybe just flexing with your hands? you need to put the boots on and strap them up to really feel the true flex of a boot

You could get those even stiffer you know. You can bolt the cuff. Like an overlap boot and this really helps stiffen them up. Gives a much more responsive feel I have found. I think full tilt should build a back bone into the cuff so you could lock the cuff when you wanted to actually put down a fee turns.

I think that might be tricky, it would be pretty easy to infringe on K2s spyne patents, it seems like some pretty broad wording in their filing

How do you mean? I'm not talking about the spine (or however k2 spell it) I'm talking about a back bone that pretty much every overlap boot uses. Look at the salomon Xmax or atomic redster. Would be so nice to be able to lock out and make quick flex adjustments rather then having to swap the tounge. It could also lead on to them being able to introduce a freeride boot with a hike mode. But unfortunately with there current production problems non of these improvements will happen which is a shame.

Got Nordica Ace 3 stars. 130 flex is more my thing. Still have my full tilts for when I want toy boots, haha.

What do you mean? Is Roxa not interested in improving the product? Shouldnt FT be able to decide what they want to do anyway?

The way K2 fixes their cuff to the shell is nothing new- Atomic has been doing that since 2006.

Now this is just what I have been told by guys at full tilt so it may not be totally accurate but with roxa making the boots full tilt have to share technology. This means if they develop more and inprove the products roxa get all that r and d for free. So until full tilt can produce there own product it's doubtfull you will see any improvements which I think is a real shame as there is so much that could be done to inprove an already pretty good idea.

Seems like a silly deal, considering if they own the rights to the mold. Why not just move to different production facility? Hell Im sure somewhere in china would do it cheap! Its not like roxa brings anything to the table!
With that in mind, why doesnt FT get the half R and D? Considering roxa has a touring option. FT doesnt seem to benefit from that!
It just seems archaic to pretend that Italians know everything about ski boots.

That's full tilts problem though. It's not as easy to set up a boot ptoduction facility as it is say a ski factory. Look at all the indie brands making skis in garages. There is a reason you don't see indie boot brands as it's a much bigger undertaking. And as for roxa why should they share tech with full tilt what's in it for them. Roxa are in the driving seat unfortunately so until full tilt can resolve its production they will be pretty stale in development.

Fair enough. But my point is really that I assume FT has a bigger market than roxa. Maybe they are bigger in skates, but not ski boots. I am just surprised that roxa could claim FT RandD but not be reciprocal. Sounds like FT signed a shitty deal. Hope they can do something soon or as you know will fall behind other boot makers.

The problem is full tilt are still a very small player in ski boots. Other then park riders no one else really buys full tilt. We sell them at my current company but full tilt sales make up for much less then 1% of overall boot sales. So unfortunately as loved as they are here they are too small a player to really be able to dictate anything. Roxa are in te driving seat as if they decide to stop producing boots for full tilt, full tilt will be in real trouble.

Half full tilts problem is deciding to market to a tiny sector of skiers. It can work for line for example as skis can be produced much more easily. But boots just don't work that way. If full tilt were a mahout player they could dictate what they want or even produce there own boots but by being core as the kids would say they are almost restricting themselves. That's how I see it anyway.
