dead heads of ns! i always had a couple dead songs in my library, the more popular ones shakedown st and scarlet begionias, etc, then one of my friends saw furthur over the summer, and out of curiosity i looked them up and started to learn more about the long strange trip that is the grateful dead. havent listened to much else since then, and if furthur goes back on tour im gonna try to get to a few stops. favorite show has got to be winterland new years eve 1978, or june 14 1969 just because of the dark star. need to listen to more bootlegs of full shows, dead.net is a great resource for looking them up. some of my personal favorite songs are

Phil is going to be playing some pretty sick shows next year. Furthur is on hiatus. I think ratdog might be touring as well. I won't ever go on furthur tour but I do try and see them when I can. I'm thinking they might ditch furthur and come back in 2015 as a final year with "the dead" like they did in 09. Would be nice to see them all together again.

They're good but sometimes they charge way too much IMO. They pop up enough at festivals to not bother paying extra to see. Was going to catch them in oneonta or ithica or somewhere a few years ago and tickets were 45 bucks I think. But as I said before they're definitely good at what they do.

This is a thread I can get behind.

The archive is a great place listen to shows. Most can be downloaded as well. Some shows have been taken off because they are on dick picks and sold as albums.

Look up the Burton Hall shows, they are really good. Classic Dead.

I been moving from the 70s into the early 80s lately.

Futhur is good, but Bobby sings way too many of Jerry's songs which can be annoying. Phil and Friends from their November run was out of this world. Check out the archive.

I never got a chance to see The Grateful Dead before Jerry died. Which bums me out.

I am glad others on here are into the Dead.

I know that gets to a lot of people but I'm fine with it. I'm fine with phil or bobby singing any one the songs. They aren't going to be around that much longer.

Glad for some of the sit ins I've seen. Trey with furthur at Interlocken this summer, bobby with moe. at moe.down a few years ago. Bobby with primus at summercamp a couple years ago doing the other one.

I didn't make it to see moe. this year in San Fran. Then what I wanted to see last year happened. Al from moe. played with Phil at terrapin crossroads. Was jealous.

I'm lucky enough to have Gathering of the Vibes in the town next to mine, so I get to see Phil & Friends, DSO, and Further like every summer. Pretty dope fest.

I dont know why Bobby needs to sing with you have fake Jerry. That being said it is not going to stop me from listening to every run or going to shows.

my dad was a pretty big dead head and he got me pretty into them for a while. i still listen to them a bit. i love the pandora station cuz it pretty much only plays like jerry, the dead, and phil lesh, such things like that and its awesome. i really wanna get a big dead shirt for skiing haha

Actually, all of the side projects he did with David Grisham are awesome. Dead with a little bluegrass.

I don't really like riding to the dead or any jam music. I used to rock a bunch of phish/dead/moe./biscuits etc while working but when I ride it's gotta be hip hop or bust to get my flow goin.

dude thats sick i wish my dad was more into music in general or had been when he was younger.

one of my uncles actually followed the dead for a few years back in the late 70s early 80s, went to over 100 concerts during that time the stories he has told me about it are so rad, makes me wish i was born in the 50s and lived when rock was still alive hahah

There's still lots of good music out there. Unfortunately not to that extent. = It's crazy that pop music was actually good back in the 60s. The amount of good music is just insane. These days it's out there you just have to sift through a shit ton of garbage to find it.

Also I've been thinking how it's ridiculous to see the same band 100+ times or even 10+ time in normal people standards. Especially spending a tong of money and traveling all over to do it. I love listening to the stories of people that were around back then for the music. People who saw hendrix and other acts at the fillmore, monterey pop festival, traveled with the dead, etc.

We may not have quite the music scene they had back then but it still is pretty good. The coolest thing IMO is that you can never see every band, and you can never meet every person. I do my best, but there is always fresh music I've never even heard of and strange people that I can have meet and become friends with.

I have a huge collection but I always love listening to a real head spin tracks on the radio. Every weekend I try to catch The Grateful Dead and Friends Saturdays from noon-2 on 90.7 KBOO FM and Dawn of the Dead with concert Dave Sundays at 8am on 92.3 KGON . Both of these shows come in clear in the Timberline parking lot. If you are not in Oregon I recommend streaming these shows online. Keep on truckin' friends.

Yesterday I finally started listening to the 2013 30 days of dead tracks. I never got around to playing them on the PC so I burned it and threw the disks in the Subaru. Pretty sweet tracks with great sound quality. Going to be great on the way to Mt. Hood. As of right now you can still download all the tracks at http://www.dead.net/30daysofdead .

The black crowes are sort of similar to panic in a sense. That southern rock vibe.


Not really the same but you might enjoy Greensky bluegrass or Railroad earth. Imo 2 of the best touring bands out there. Also leftover salmon kills it.

that is so amazing. my mom and her brothers followed them around for years and they've handed me down about 30 tees from the different shows and a bunch of autographs on different things. so grateful.

However, Uncle Sam has a way of magnifying hate against the anti-culture to ensure they can keep power. So, the next time you make fun of somebody being "hip" just brainstorm whose side are you really on? Is the government really on your side? Or do they have you brainwashed to follow their rules?
