Would you rather? Hard knuckle or way overshoot?

Simple. Would you rather, assuming you had no choice, to case the jump real hard, or to overshoot the jump way too far


Personally, I would rather knuckle because I think overshooting is really really scary. You can feel it coming, and there's nothing you can do about it. It's especially bad if you're doing a large trick because the surprise amount of extra air will cause you to eat it hard. Most knuckles you can shake off in a few min.


What about you guys?

Blew my knee overshooting and I would have probably rather not done that, so I'd say knuckle.

Depends on the jump.

Knuckle some floaty roller and you might be fine, knuckle a huge step down or a step up and you're dead. I had worse experiences coming short, so I'd go with overshooting.

Id way rather knuckle a step down. Overshooting it would entail falling a significant number of feet farther.

Hard knuckle, overshooting is way too scary and never occurred to me. I am so afraid of overshoot that I tend to speed check at slow speed for a start.

In my experience, knuckling hurts more. If you go way too big at least you can collapse and let your body go limp and take the impact with your skis etc or hell you can even just stomp it deep it just might hurt your toes/balls a little bit.

yeah knuckle for sure. I overshot a 60 footer last season and fractured my pelvis in 2 places/claim. I have knuckled that same jump though and been fine.

Knuckle. Way less dangerous in most cases. Sure it sucks but if you drop an extra 20+ to flat ground it's a hell of a lot worse. I don't think I've ever really gotten hurt knuckling a jump. Never really do it. Broke my back, murdered my knees, and broke my saint patty's day hat(cost me 3bucks) by overshooting jumps.

Knuckling sucks so much worse then overshooting generally. You can usually hip check on an overshoot but a knuckle landing sucks. At my age my knees just explode and it can hurt for days. So personally if take an overshoot every day.

I don't get this logic. Think about going faster, falling farther and landing like just as flat. There is no way that is the better option.

Lowell yeah if you completely clear the landing and land complexity flat yeah that would suck but that barley ever happens at least on decent sized jumps. Landings are huge so if you overshoot the whole thing then really you deserve it as you were clearly going way way to fast. But knuckle a 40ft step down is one of the worst things, I would way rather overshoot and have to hip check as you at least get some run out still.

Overshoot all day because I'm pretty good at taking huge hits to my feet. Knuckling always sucks, especially when you anticipate a steep landing so your weight is forward and then you slam into the knuckle and fly forward.

well my big toes are way fucked from either too much powder and moguls skiing tired, or casing a jump;. either way, still rather knuckle than overshoot, overshooting takes away your confidence, casing it just pushes you to go harder

i was a pussy just like many starting out on the big jumps until i put it together that it hurts less to fall on the landing than to case the knuckle.
....then I overshot a jump at mammoth. Hard to get your flow and confidence after being afraid to hit jumps with speed

Gifs present the most extreme of both situations, nothing like what most ppl here would face.

i.e. You wont have a park jump with a "knuckle" like chads.
OR, you wont be able to gain enough speed to go as huge as Dumont (sno-mo tow-in)

Knuckle is better than Overshoot any day. The speed you have and force of the impact is far far less than overshooting, as well as the additional gravity accel time. As for "seeing it coming" you should be aware of whats coming regardless of what trick you are throwing.

Physics aside, from experience, knuckle is always better than overshoot.

I've never seen anybody snap their tip fib from hitting the knuckl on a regular park jump, but I've seen that a few times on an overshoot. Add to that broken backs, numerous concussions, and blown out knees.

Knuckle may hurt, but I know that if I over shoot even just a 40 foot jump there is a good chance I'm going to the hospital.

I love the feeling you get when you overshoot but still stomp it, a feeling in between shitting yourself in public and shaking with adrenaline.
I hate knuckling because it absolutely wrecks my knees but I would still prefer to knuckle than to over shoot

Definitely knuckle, last time i overshot i put a tooth through my bottom lip and into my chin. Luckily thats not a serious injury but i did i look like some demented devil spawn for a few weeks!

knuckle any day, ya maybe ur ankles and legs will hurt but fuck flying down to flat is the worst feeling ever, u just know it in the air and ur like "fuck" and boom lights out blown knee

I'm going to start riding with a parachute with my tendency to overshoot everything. When you have that sick feeling in your stomach going over the knuckle while peaking in height, instead of rolling the windows down just pull the chord and glide safely to the bar in the lodge where a cold beer awaits you.
