Whether it's spins or straight airs, in photos I look like I'm sitting in a chair. Like, completely. Plus my upper body is forward too.

How do you extend yourself and make it look smooth? I feel its my pop.






In addition, I rock long poles and they're usually going different directions in pics (ugly as hell). I feel like the length really adds to my balance in the air. How do you fix this?

I feel myself doing the crazy arms too. It's hard not to with the weight of the pole. I don't even know where to put poles or which direction to aim them.


I just want to be able to hit a jump calm and smooth. I think a slick straight air with a grab is cooler than a shitty 5.

Just keep hitting jumps to become more comfortable. Also, poles I have found don't provide any variation of balance as long as you have them. But if they're too short you will probably stab yourself at some point, and if they're too long they get in the way. Find your medium.

Its just practice man. You'll get to the point eventually where you feel comfortable and on balance from take off to landing. Most likely your still having a brief oh fuck moment in the middle, or your form is breaking down at some point and affecting your balance

fuck, you're confirming my worst fears. i never have pictures or videos of myself, so i always assume i look like shit. especially when i feel my arms flailing a bit, must look so gaper

all i can say is pop and go for the grab. lots of speed, lots of air

It's just hard having no one better than me to watch and tell me what to fix. I see how trainers are so much help. God damn.

ski race for 5 years, then ski the mountain for 5 years, then go back into the terrain park and it will be easy/ obvious.

I've been skiing for a long time, never raced but I can carve good (with good form) and hit moguls, steeps, trees...

My guess is it's technique/skill..

But it could in addition be lack of strength in certain muscles to hold my shit straight I think... Right? I'd assume the stronger your legs the more weightless your skis feel...

Basically all this. I broke my thumb a few years ago and couldnt ski with poles and it really helped my balance in the air.

Don't use poles so you can work on your style more. When you get your shit together then cut down your long ass poles and your style will be cleaner.

How is skiing with short poles? At least you can still push yourself around... But do they do anything to help on steeps/moguls?

I think there is no loss of function on steeps and moguls since they are still long enough that I can pole plant easily. My arms are definitely not 90 degrees but the poles are still functional. I cut down my poles mainly for park. It keeps them out of the way since they're smaller and improves your style.

Well mogul poles are supposed to be short but when I broke my thumb I was on a freestyle team so I skied a lot of moguls without poles and it really helped my balance.

It'l come with time, but here are 3 things to help you out that really worked for me!

Ski with arms bent. Squat a tiny bit. Have an aggressive stance

Confidence. Stomp a trick, any trick. Now believe it looked epic. Ski the rest of the day like you own the mountian

Have fun on normal trails. Pick out some side hits or wooded lines, and try to ski them as stylish as possible. It'l help you be more creative, and it's pretty darn fun too
