Definitely don't be setting from your damn head... backflips come from your hips and toes, mostly your toes. Lincolns come from your hips, not your head or neck.

Lift your tips over your head off the lip and press your hips to the sky, you should still see be looking forward. Then drop your head and look for the gnoll, you can drop your feet behind your knees and hold it out. Then pull your feet in to land.

You get so much more control if you set right, then drag your feet out.

If you're taking off like you did on the snowflex ramp (setting your head and dragging your feet right away) it's only a matter of time before you catch your tips hard or over rotate.

i've tried all your tips, my backflips have improved but i still don't feel comfortable. What can i do to improve? As you can see i am not spotting my landing early enough. Click for larger image

they aren't that bad. maybe just don't wind up as much it seems like you are prepping too early for the take off. it should be more of a smooth motion. kinda go wiht the jump while popping

Lift your toes over your head off the top of the jump, not right before you land. Way more control.

Bringing back this helpful thread, I was wondering about the size of the jump to try a backflip on. I was thinking about the range of 15-20 feet. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Where is that? Looks like the tuxedo ridge big air competition jump from previous years.. Great thread though this is gonna be helpful once the time comes around for me!

Also, for anyone interested in progressing past the backflip once you nail that down.. the rodeo is pretty easy to do as well.

Once you're comfortable enough to stomp out your backflips you can work on these.. It's really all in your head, and the biggest problem you'll have not landing this is if you hesitate.. Essentially, when you hit the lip on the jump, throw your dominant arm above your head and only your dominant arm.. your body will follow with the twist while you're in the air and you will come down switch.

It really is best to practice this a bunch of times on a trampoline until you get comfortable spinning like that in the air because it can be discombobulating, but if you can nail it on a tramp, you can nail it on a kicker!
