Sleeping in a car

Hey NS so me and my friends are planing on sleeping in a car this year so we dont have to pay for gas when we ski for days in a row. What do you think about sleeping in a car? Dangerous? Just fine? Whats your opinion?

bring warm ass sleeping bags and hope the resort doesn't mind you sleeping there. otherwise you'll be finding a walmart lot or something in which case you'll still have to pay for gas.

You should be fine, just sleep in warm clothes and warm sleeping bags. The biggest thing you would have to worry about is the resort getting pissed, but if you figure it out ahead of time you should be good.

Get a warm sleeping bag and a sleeping pad, you'll definitely need a good stretch in the morning.

I did it in my vw last february at sugarloaf. Cold as balls but I only had two blankets. Get a nice down sleeping bag and youre set

Ive done it a bunch. Warm sleeping bags are definitely needed. The hardest thing is drying off your ski gear, which I havent really figured out, as wet ski boots, gloves, and goggles are never good.

the only bad thing i could think off is having your boots be freezing cold in the morning but i guess you could just wake and crank the heat to get them warm

stick your boots as close to the floor vents as possible then turn the heat on full blast. it takes a while but its better than nothing

sleeping in your ride aint that bad in my opinion. you just need ( as said above ) some warm ass sleeping bag(s) and youll be good. kinda also depends on what kind of vehicle you have. i had a dodge durango that i had for bout 6 yrs , ( just sold it last summer ) but that car was the bees knees fo crashing in. its nice to have a car that has the ability to fold down the backseats completely flat, and thats what that durango was great at. couple minutes of moving shit around and you have a complete dry, flat, roomy, sleeping area tht fits 2 people very comfortably etc. this year im fucked if i have to sleep in my ride tho, i bought a truck with no topper so i best find a good topper or else ima have to set up my lil one man tent in the bed with a tarp over it or something haha, not guna be fun and will prob result in a sleepless night with me ending up sleeping in the passenger seat with the seat back and heat on haha. any ways good luck man, sleeping in cars can save yo ass some cash and gas, and it can also be a terrible experience haha, like said above , talk to someone at the ski hill as well so you dont get in trouble and have to drive to a parking lot in town or something at midnight. peace my friend and happy sleeps ! dont forget to crack a window ..

you will need a change of clothes because if you are wet from sweat or melted snow IT WILL SUCK. Also a sleeping bag rated to the correct temperature.

Its a good idea to dry boots out with boot dryer and just rent a locker to leave everthing inside (lodge) so it can dry better or become friends with some of the staff and store stuff in park room/employee dressing room for free.

Also another suggestion, I have a no moving parts boot dryer (theyre pretty cheap) and if you get a converter for your car you can plug it in and leave your boots on all night, and they use very little electricty so the battery wont be totally fucked if you have a decent battery.  Other than that im with you its hard to get clothing dry especially base layers, but just dont use cotton and its not a problem.

me and my buddy were planning on sleeping in the whiteface parking lot last year before the big storm hit. we went all the way to the back of the overflow lot, which was completely empty, and werent even there for 10 minutes before someone came and told us we couldn't stay there. i guess it had something to do with insurance or plowing or something, so we just went a couple miles down the road to an ADK trail head and set up there.

done it before (in a city though) and it's not too bad. just dress warmly and make sure you have a good sleeping bag. also, try your best to dry out your wet ski gear/boots in the lodge before throwing it all in the car. keep your boots in the main part of the car (not trunk) so they stay warm and they'll be easier to get on in the morning. if your base layers are slightly damp, just continue wearing them and hopefully your body heat will dry em out. in my opinion, sleeping in a car is fine if you do it right. saving money on gas leads to more money for beer. magic. good luck dude.

Yeah dont put your clothes between you and the sleeping bag. If anything, put them in your bag so they stay warm.

Kill both your friends and sleep inside their hollowed out carcass's. Keep you warm and you wont need to buy a sleeping bag.

More money for gas...!

For your just roll them up as much as u can and dry them in the lodge bathroom with the hand drier. It will prob take a couple min to get them semi dry. Also when u put the heat on put ur gloves on the dash where the windshield heaters are.

if you're in a 5 passenger car, drop both first seats and let someone on the back seats. yes it's tight but works pretty good.

did it all this year with my dad and managed to ski 21 days, what i recommend is wearing thermals as socks and maybe a ballaclava to keep your head warm, aswell as having a great sleepy bag, never cheap out on the sleepy bag otherwise you wont be able to get to sleep and you will have a shit day on the slopes, its fine sleeping in car the windows frost over and no one can see you and the sun wakes you up so you're always up nice and early so yeeah great way to do skiing on a budget

dont sleep in your car with propane or gas heaters and asphyxiate yourself. find a way to stay safe while staying warm, air matresses dont hold as much heat as foam while sleeping, booze always helps too.

lots of people do this in winter, paticularly the crusty die-hards who are awaiting first turns after big dumps so good luck. car camping just takes some experience/equipment so don't expect to be great at it your first go.

A tip if you're in a sedan/coupe where the backseat can flip down so you can get into the trunk.  Fold that partition down and set yourself up so your feet are in the trunk and your torso is in the backseat.

The gear I haven't seen yet that I find essential is this: Nalgene x2 Warm wool socks. Cover one Nalgene in bumpy ductape=pee bottle. You can feel it without a light so you don't pee in your drink bottle. Saves you getting out of the sleeping bag and losing all that precious warmth you've worked so hard on. Fill the second Nalgene with boiling water, take off your ski socks, put on the wool socks and then stuff the hot water bottle in your ski socks. When you're in your sleeping bag put the hot water/ski sock combo between your legs. It heats you up, your bag up, you have dry socks in the morning and a bottle of unfrozzen water.

I basically lived out of a Range Rover with a friend for a couple seasons. You should get a comfortable foam mattress, the warmest damn sleeping bag you can afford, and a ton of dry clothes. That's the most important thing - dry clothes. The fact is that you're going to be wet pretty much all the time after day one, so dry clothes will save your sanity. Especially socks.

Crack the windows just a touch when you sleep unless it's blizzarding and buy an AC/DC inverter so you can charge your phone, laptop, etc. Bring a lot of ski movies to watch. I've had moderate luck with using electric air pumps to dry gloves, boots, socks, etc. Its a worthy investment if you're sleeping in the car more than a couple nights in a row. More importantly, bring lots of booze - seriously it will make you not mind going to bed in your cold wet sleeping bag.

Crank the heat as much as possible until you go to bed.

And bring a camp stove. Nothing cuts the bite out of pulling on a wet frozen jacket at the crack of dawn like a scalding hot bowl of oatmeal - and the knowledge that you'll have 2 laps of first tracks before the locals even show up.

Literally overshoot the mark on this by way more than you think. Take the warmest sleeping bag you can afford, then mow twenty more lawns to double up.

Wet gear certainly sucks, dead devices suck, cold boots suck... but nothing ruins the night more than sleeping in the freezing fucking cold. Shit is cold too... super cold.

You can get sleeping bag liners and wear super good thermal underwear (stink factor 10) to maximize, but you'll be cold so really don't fuck around with your sleeping warmness.

Sleeping bags with the hoods are the balls too. Nice thermal undies, bag liner, thermal toque (not cool, not gangster - WARM) and then your sleeping bag hood cinched shut so just your lips are sticking out.

You be alright. I slept in my car/van many, many, many nights.

Buy a sleeping bag 0 degress or below..i was in scouts and done a lot of tent camping in o degree weather...wear lots of layers when u go to bed so if ur hot u could easily take it off....take all the clothes u will wear the next morning and put them in ur sleeping bag so its warm when u wake up...props to the guy that said put boiling water in the nalgene...just put the nalgene in ur sleeping bag and if acts like a heater(better than those body warmers that people shake up)...also bring a pile of newspapers so u could put them in ur wet boots overnight and it will absorb the moisture...buy one of those eskimo hats....dont use any gas heaters..it could kill u......if u plan on camping out for more than a couple days...go to a laundromat and use a dryer....using gas for that would be worth it......lastly, its better to bring more clothes than u need rather to have few....other than that, good luck brotha!!...a lot better idea than staying at the overpriced resort

I've done this a few times at Keystone before. Fortunately we were able to get into this heated parking garage at some really nice hotel accessible through an indoor pool we snuck into. It was so damn sketchy the only way it works is if there are people in the pool that will let you in though an outside door. Sure as hell beats freezing your ass off though. This is where having friends that have places on the mountain comes in handy thats for sure.

i have slept in the back of my subaru so many times but never during the winter. you are going to need a vehicle of larger sorts if you want to fit 3 people. honestly just trade in your car and buy a really small rv, just like one of those conversion vans. then you will be golden
