Next years Pipe Cleaner or I was thinking a TYW Pro as he has been basically only been using prototypes this summer from what I've seen.

Twins, and rockered tails are useful for more than skiing switch. Sometimes people just like the ability to break the tail free a little easier.

Yeah it's definitely born from the idea of waxless XC skis. I think a fairly popular AT ski that has a fishscale base is the Karhu XCD guides. They're a very narrow ski though. I think putting a patterned section on a modern pow ski should work well considering the drastically increased surface area. Obviously if Surface is putting pictures out there it will likely be hitting the market. If it's hitting the market, they're obviously confident in the capability of the technology.

Voile uses the fish scales on their backcountry skis. Doesn't replace the need for skin on longer tours, but for short traverses and not too steep skin tracks they work alright.

Yeah, scales are nothing new.
Voile, Rossignol, and La Sportiva all have skis that are "backcountry skis" but suck as a downhill ski.
Most people buy skis like this instead of a cross country ski or snowshoe, think of it as like a 2 in 1.
If you are looking for a BC ski to really ski on, nothing will beat a skin.


But Marquette Backcountry skis are a lot cooler and will get the same job done if you want something to go play around in the woods and jump off rocks with

Heard from a rep that Line have changed the core on the Future Spin, Chronic and Blend for next year so that they are using the same as the Opus/Bacon not the Line Snapcore (TM) they have been using the last couple of years. Good news if it's true.

Just read through this whole thread to make sure I didn't double post this. Even though they're not a big name in freestyle skiing yet, Sammy Carlson is making his pro model skis from APO look real fine. Can't wait to try them out

Those were the best Armada graphics of all time.

I really liked these too. Armada was in their prime 2005-2008

Am I the only one who thinks the idea of the Armada Declivity is absolute bullshit? All Armada did was make a directional 98mm ski with slight tip early rise, the most common all mountain shape on the market. Now that they throw a skin clip on there, and JP endorses it, suddenly it is a ski for "technical mountaineering."

Im also one who misses the older graphics on Armadas, the Pipe Cleaner above and 08 Thalls are simple, yet so awesome, really one of my all time favourites along with OG Rossi Scratch Fs and first EP Pros

Because it is not a technical mountaineering ski. You can have a stiff and responsive ski with out the negatives of metal in the construction. If you want a ski to skin or climb up with, metal does not make sense. All the Declivity should be is a all mountain ski, but they already have the ARVti which is almost identical, just with a little shorter sidecut.

I'm sure they made it in response to the kind of skiing JP is doing a lot of in Cham. Not necessarily wanting the lightest ski, but something more directional. Dynastars with metal were the hot ticket for a lot of guides in Chamonix.

I know they did. I don't know for how long or when it stopped. But it used to be that most of the sponsored athletes had to use Tyrolia bindings, and all their tech support and media would suggest Tyrolia. So they def had some type of deal going on. But lately I've seen Torin and Henrik both with their own preferred bindings so I thought something was up.

It is not a bad idea actually. If you look at a touring ski like a dynafit often they will have a very basic light weight core and then a metal laminate to stiffen the ski and give a good binding interface. The advantage is it creates a light ski as you don't need to use heavier woods to give the ski it's structure. Personally I think the new ski actually makes quite a lot of sense and that and the invictous could be the skis which finally open armada up to the mass market. But we will see.

Yeah it will definitely be interesting to see how it plays out. The Invictus does look cool as well. Both that and the Salomon Quest lab next year fill a gap of the fatter, directional, medium sidecut ski with metal in the construction.

Yeah exactly. It's that stiff mid fat directional ski that is selling so well at the moment. Big soft skis are fun but don't sell anything like as well. Add the new atomic automatics to that list too and there are some great skis on th way
