When people ask where you're from do you say where you were born, or where you lived the longest? Roomie and I disagree, I say where I grew up is my hometown, she says it's where you were born.
I lived in my birth-town for 10 years but I don't have any friends from that time anymore and have no association with it anymore. I only lived in bozeman for 7 years but I have a bunch of friends still from bozeman and I feel the most "home" there, so I tell everyone I meet/know that I'm from bozeman.
I say it's up to the person. Wherever you feel is your home is what you should call your home.
I was born in Port Huron, Mi but only lived there for a couple months after I was born. I lived in Port Sanilac, Mi from kindergarten to the 5th grade so that's where I grew up. But I went to junior high and high school in Traverse City, Mi so I usually tell people that that's where I'm from since most of my life was spent there.
My parents lived in Elburn, but DeKalb was the closest town with a hospital, so I have that dilemma. Lived in Illinois for four years, Louisiana for two, Wisconsin for elementary school and Nevada for middle/high school, so I usually say I'm from Nevada out of ease.
Born in summerside PEI, moved when I was 3 to Dartmouth Nova Scotia. I'm from Dartmouth. Why would I claim myself to an area I did nothing but shit my drawers and get my diapers changed in.
In most situations I tell them where I live now as I assume that's what they are asking. If the person is asking where I used to live I tell them where I was born and where I lived most of my life (different places).
when people ask for my home town, i say mammoth, when people ask where i grew up i say reno. spent most of my time in reno but since im in mamoth so often (to visit my dad) i kinda associate it as my hometown
