Securing 6" diameter PVC pipe to a 2x8/2x6

So I am building a rail for winter and I was trying to figure out in my head how to secure a 6" PVC pipe to a board. I'm thinking that a single file line of screws from the bottom would break after just a few hits. So should I double up on screws and do two lines from the bottom? Or should I put a cradle-like structure underneath the pipe like this- \__/ And then screw from the three sides? If you've ever used a 6" tube tell me about your experience. And what you'd recommend for me.

i've made one. the best way to do it is by making a cradle like structure. if your build the structure correctly (like an "x") with precise miter cuts, you'll be good to go with only a few screws. the most important part are the miter cuts. pm with any other questions.

also, you can use a 12" diameter pipe and put it on top of plywood with stubs to keep it from rolling. like this:

Explain please, I know that bolts will hold REALLY well, but I was thinking drilling holes through the sides, then putting the bolt through the holes and do it for 3 or 4 leg supports. As well as putting a board underneath for extra stabilization. How did you do it with your bolt(s)?

You could screw or bolt it into a 2x4 and then throw an extra sideways 2x4 on each side or some ply to hold it in place even more. You could cut come half circles out of ply for the tube to sit in in addition to being bolted down.

What ever you do make sure it feels solid. Hitting a rail that feels rock solid is much more fun than something that wobbles.

okay, no worries anymore. just sort of winged it and it works PERFECTLY

base board is a 2x10, drill 2x3s on the edges, the pipe actually just slides right in. then drill from the 2x3s and from the bottom of 2x10 and you'll have an orgasmic 6" fatty.

i got the pipe from lowes for $26 btw
