Lightroom 4 Questions

Real quick question.  When I view my RAW images in LIghtroom it says loading when I pull them up and then it converts the image to a darker and slightly less saturated version.  Why does it do this and can I change this in the preferences or something?

I am also wondering this. I thought it might have been an issue with my lcd brightness, but that was not the case.

This has to do with the difference between camera and LR settings. The thumbnail you see is made by your camera, whereas the full-sized image you see is made by LR. This may sound confusing, but since your working with a RAW image, the image needs to be rendered. Thumbnails are done by your camera, the big image by LR.
I honestly don't understand why they don't just do it both with LR settings, but it's probably a little faster to seperate the two.
