Im sure this thread will get a lot of hate, but how many of you guys ski race for a high school or more completive like on an actual team, or have raced before you moved to park or big mountain. Im just interested on how many people on this site are dedicated to park or big mountain.

Racing is something everyone should do, same with moguls. The techniques you will learn will help you progress so much faster in the park. Any kids who think that racing is gay and not usefull will be the kids who progress the slowest.

Why are park skiers so against freestyle. a lot of the best skiers raced when they were young!

I came from racing, did 2 years FIS level before it all got to serious.

But seriously think it is one of the best bases someone can have for ripping everywhere in the mountain. Just teaches you how to feel and get the most out of a pair of skis.

Know my kid will either race or do moguls... even just at kid level to get the base.

i agree with ^this guy, my kids are definately doing some structured coaching of some sort at first, probably racing.
i raced from around 5 or 6 till i was 12 and i thank my parents every day for it, it makes you a waaay better skier later on in whatever else you decide to do.
i'm now transitioning more to BC skiing and basically just ride park when the snow is shitty, i feel super comfy in the gnar already and i can thank racing for it

also racing is actually fun as fuck (before it gets too serious) and anyone who says differently hasn't tried racing (on a nice course, with proper skis, after a proper course inpection, so you can actually ski to your limit)

i compare it to go-kart racing; just raw speed and crazy g-forces on every turn, having to think quickly and plan your line, it's super exciting

i think all skiers should try out a nice pair of race skis sometime and i bet it'll put a smile on your face

having raced competitively for eleven years, i know it has done me a world of good. not only does it help me feel stable and confident at the top of a line, it also taught me from a young age that skiing is all about going out and having fun with your buds, pushing each other or just skiing around and if you have fun skiing success will come along with that, whatever your definition of success is. I still love to race on the local high school team because its just fun to get out and have somebody tell you "go as fast as you can, any way you can down this course" its not often your encouraged to really go for it at a ski area, let alone test yourself against other fast skiers. plus i get to ski four or five days a week, because my school recognizes it as a varsity sport, so i can get off at noon every day and miss Fridays to ski

It will put a smile on your face if you have proper posture and know how to drive a pair of skis, otherwise you may just end up with your feet above your head.

very true haha, a lot of kids just don't know how to ski today, but are somehow amazing in the park, blows my mind
