Alright for the 18+ crowd from the USA (sorry canada, different banks/cards/airlines) that has credit cards and hoping to hear from someone who travels alot/knows alot about travel reward cards.
For some background info, I want this card to save towards airline flights. I fly delta 99% of the time, I live in SLC I can literally fly into any major city in the USA from SLC on delta, so I don't really NEED a card that gets me flights on any airline.
Now that being said, here is what I've found.
I've done my fair share of googling and it seems the Capital One Venture card is the highest rated reward card. This card is a Visa (I already have a Visa card through my bank so i dont necessarily NEED a Visa card). its $59 a year (first year waved) I would earn 2x points for every dollar for everything. 10k points = $100 in reward credit so for a flight, i'd need around 50k points. The signing bonus is 10k points.
Another card I've heard its great is the delta skymiles AMEX. You get 1x points for every dollar and 2x dollars on delta purchases, free checked bag, priority boarding, couple other small perks. The gold card is $95 (first year waved) the platinum is $150. The platinum get more medalion miles on signup (which is nice) and i get a mile boost if i spend $25k in a calendar year (possible for sure if i travelled alot) rewards are straight miles and its 25k points for a flight (equally the same amount of points for a flight on cap one). the signing bonus is 30k miles.
One card I found on my own was the Sky Blue Prefered AMEX. its $75 a year and I get 1x points for every dollar, 2x points on hotel, rental card and restaurant purchases (great for travel). I get a $100 dollar credit every year for travel expenses (bags, food, drinks, etc involving flights). 7500 points = $100 credit towards reward and that makes a flight about 37,500 points (only 37,500 points but harder to get that many points with only 1x even though i could get 2x often too) so depending on how I spend money, it could be about the same as the other two cards. The signing bonus is 15k points.
So, i've noticed that pretty much all three cards are equal when it comes to earning a flight. I'm pretty confident I will always fly delta, altho if something came up in a year and wanted to fly something else, itd be nice to have credit vs miles.
Another thing is, I could redeem 15k (amex) or 20k (cap one) points and get $200 bucks and use it to pay for half of a flight, which seems nice too.
Overall, I am leaning towards delta because I can use miles I earn from flying + miles from the card and get a free flight faster. Plus, its the only card that gives me a free flight as a bonus. Also, the small perks are great and I think no doubt i'd go platinum.
I feel like there are other cards im missing or maybe some good deals out there. Im not interested really in any other airline cards, just rewards cards or delta.
I'd appreciate any advice about this shit guys, thanks!
